    St. Weiler

    While I was stocking up on cat food today, a customer came into the store with a HUGE dog! He was a Rottweiler/Saint Bernard mix, which apparently is called a "St. Weiler." He looked a lot like the first photo (Madison) at this website: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/stweiler.htm

    I didn't ask how much he weighs, but he looked significantly larger than my sister's 120-pound yellow lab. He was a real sweetie, just a big ol' tail-wagging happy boy.

    And his name? Peanut!

    It looks just like a Tosa Inu or a short-haired Leonberger, meaning there was absolutely no point in breeding a litter of mixes when people could get the exact same thing in a purebred.

    Agreed 100%!!! There is NO quality or look that one cannot already find in a purebred dog now.

    Another mutt with a fancy name. When all those adorable puppies get BIG, they will end up at animal controls and shelters. Once the novelty of telling people the cute trendy "breed" name of the designer dog wears off, and the reality of ownership sets in ... it's the dog that pays the price.

    St. Weiler

    I resent all the negative comments I have just read about the St. Weiler breed. We got a St. Weiler puppy just 1 month ago. She is 6 months old and a wonderful dog. She is full of energy and so lovable!! She has put some new life into our older Rottie/lab. We all love her and are so glad we got her. I wasn't looking for this type of puppy, but when I found her, I couldn't resist. I personally could not afford an expensive full breed dog from a breeder. And no- she will never end up at some shelter when she gets bigger. We knew what we were getting into when we brought home our big baby!! People have to research the type of dog they are getting then they won't be surprised when the puppy grows up!!
