Ben went to Rainbow Bridge at 2 PM today.
When the surgeon took digital xrays to clarify a shadow on the regular vet's xrays, it was tumor material wrapped around 2 vertebrae (L3 and L4). It was wrapped so tightly that it fractured L4. It was malignant cancer which had metastasized.
One possibility was surgery to remove as much tumor material as possible, and both vertebrae and put in pins. Then a course of 15 rounds of radiation, which is painful. At most, that would give him 2 years. Then he still needed to have a herniated disc addressed, and most likely something would have to be done about his severe hip dysplasia. All very expensive, and not guaranteed to cure him.
Ben was here one week and 3 hours, although not "here" all that time due to his stays at the vet yesterday and today. He made an impression on all of us, and he will be missed.
RIP, Ben. Now you are pain free, and you can blitz at the Bridge!
