    Well that was fun........NOT!!!!

So I woke up this morning, as usual got dressed, went out to the barn, grabbed a bail of hay and carried it out to the cow pasture. Only to find part of my fnce down and no COWS!!!! the problem was, we had so much snow, that I couldnt find a single set of tracks!! I have no idea how long they had been gone, or what direction they took. We have 13 acres, and live in the boonies, surrounded by acre upon acre of field and woods. Needless to say I freaked out! called hubby home from work, and set out to search. 3 hours later and much sweat we finally found them, at the far end of a 90 acre field across the road from our place.

Thankfully they were good boys, and followed me home like champs(bucket of grain in hand!) only took us an hour to walk all the way home, but we made it. fence is fixed, cows are home, and I am exhausted!! I bet I lost 10 pounds, just from all the trudging through the snow for 4 hours!!!

Well Husky mom did find the bright side to the whole thing. I guess she's right, fence is fixed, cows are home and you're getting warm. I didn't know cows wandered, thought they just stayed around.

Maggie, they do not look the least bit remorseful in those photos! More like, "got another bucket of grain?"

Glad you found all of them. Whew, I was getting tired just thinking about trudging around like that!

Shaggy cow winter coats are so cute!!!!!!!!!! I'm surprised they walked that far in the snow. Silly boys.

Oh, cows will definitely wander - after all, think of the animals on the plains of Africa - they keep moving - grazing and moving - so the "wander" is kinda built into the genes. That's why cowboys have jobs - cattle will move, wander and scatter if given half a chance! Or a downed fence ...

Wow, those boys are certainly growing! They are still very cute, though.

Sorry to hear they caused you some worry! Its crazy how far away from home they can end up, eh? I am happy you were able to find them easy enough and they followed you home without much fuss.

Oh no! I'm glad they made it back home safely. You need a snowmobile.

Over the summer we had a bad storm that took a tree down on our fence, letting the horses out. My husband took off on the 4 wheeler looking for them and I took my baby and went on foot looking for them. Luckily my husband found them pretty quickly and got them home.

Yikes!!! Glad you found them and got them home safely. What a scare!

Often on my drive to work, I'll see one of the neighboring farmer's cows standing on the side of the road munching grass. No obvious break in the fence and other cows still in the pasture content as can be. It's like they are magic cows. LOL!
