Had to take someone to the whitecoats yesterday, she has an itchy belly, butt and under her front legs.

Soooo, yet another sleepy pill, put her in the truck (70 lbs of Jello who wants to do it herself but can't) and off to da vets.

She had a cortizone shot, gets a scrip of prednisone, and we'll see where it goes from here.

Pawsitive thoughts for Lady and for your family. I feel your pain. Lacey's had allergies for a few years. RB Mandy had them. Lacey takes antihistamines. She did have to take the prednisone last summer but I guess due to the fact she gets an omega 3 & 6 pill every morning since last fall, it seems to help and we skipped the prednisone this year. Good luck.

Yeah, time to start throwing some extra fish oil in the puppy supper.

The vet was a little surprised that she's showing signs of allergies at 9 years old, but the mayor can vouch for it not being unheard of...

Cinder can sympathize, over the years she's had a couple bouts of The Itchies
and Hot Spots. First time was a thinning of all the fur on her chest and belly, and a rash,
accompanied by a CONSTANT desire to *scratch* the area.
Rx: was a cortizone shot for fast relief and a longer-lasting med, but I forget what it was.
Took about a month to clear up and regrow the missing fur.

Couple years later I woke up to *licking* ... she'd worn a huge hole on her hip overnight!
It was raw and angry-looking - and she wouldn't stop the licking.
After a frantic call to Doc Mike, we rushed in for the Cortizone shot and more 'drugs' ...
The "itch" must have stopped, except for the occasional 'I'm bored' lick or two,
and the missing fur patch finally started to grow in - s l o w l y.

In both cases, there was never a difinative cause determined.

Hopefully, Lady will ease off on the licking / scratching to allow the inflamed areas to heal.

Poor Lady!

Ayup - allergies can strike anyone at any age. I can well attest to that - our bodies and our immune systems change over time - which we all want, so that we don;t get the same sicknesses over and over - but sometimes they change for the worse and allergies are born. Sigh.

Give jello pup a kiss on the noggin for me. Is it grass allergies, maybe? She's got such thin fur on her tummy (until winter sets in) anyway ...

Hope Lady is feeling better. Did the vet say the allergies are environmental, or are they food related? Maybe it's all the molds in the air from this time of year?

Well, the Prednisone is working wonders, only one remaining problem.......

Prednisone evidently has the same effect on Lady that it has on me. We now have an itch-free dog with the MUNCHIES!

Give Lady only low cal dog treats. Problem solved.

Actually, Lizbud, part of the problem may be that a certain almost-4-year-old may dispense treats with no thought to calorie counts!

"But Lady's hungry!!!" I can hear him say ...

When I have been on prednisone, I am constantly really hungry, even though I thought it isn't real!
