Here's an article from today's Trenton paper. LES is a stong possibility:

5 veterinary clinics in eastern Alabama received 32 surprises in the last week: healthy cats in containers & carriers along with notes from an anonymous donor saying she is dying of cancer.
The notes signed by "Miss R" beg the vets to find her pets new homes.
"My time is very short," the donor wrote. "There is not enough time to find homes for my children another way. I beg you not to let them die because I have to, please!"
"Please do not kill" was written in capital letters on each of the containers.
Veterinarian Kim Bond of the All Creatures Veterinary Clinic in Auburn, Alabama said she found 3 plastic containers poked with holes sitting at her clinic's front door when she got to work at 7:00 am a week ago.
Each cat's name, age, description and medical summary was written on its container. At least 4 other clinics received cats in Lee County, about 50 miles northeast of Montgomery.
"These cats were dearly loved," Bond told the Opelika-Auburn News. "They're not feral or neglected cats."
Most have new homes already. Veterinarian Buddy Bruce at Animal Health Center still has the 6 males dropped off at his clinic & he's offering discounts on all vet services, such as shots and neutering to anyone who adopts one of the cats. The identity and location of the donor are unknown.
"Other vets that I've talked to say the same thing, 'Let's do what we can to find these kitties homes," Bruce said. "These are her children. She took care of the situation the best way she could."

If any PTers are in the area & considering another kitty companion, this might be worth looking into.

Here is some more information I found.

Poor babies, I'd love to take one but with getting this kitten this weekend hopefully (keeping my fingers crossed) I just don't have the space right now.

I do hope all of them get a great home.

They are eight of 32 cats that have been passed to various veterinarians in the area by a woman who has left notes saying she is dying of cancer and wants her cats to survive her.

At least the vets are working hard to find homes for the cats and, if they're all as healthy as the article states, it shouldn't be too difficult. So sad.

Again, the media is a wonderful way to find furrever homes for this poor lady's cats. I have a feeling with all the publicity they'll get will help do this.

That poor woman. That's why it is so important to include your pets in your will. They need to be cared for. My cats are all going to be provided for if anything should happen to me.

THATS SO WONDERFUL THAT THAT POOR LADY, EVEN RACKED WITH PAIN. HAS MANAGED TO FING HER CATS FURREVER HOMES.
I HOPE THAT IF MY TIME COMES WE CAN GET MY CATS TO THE PAMPERED FELINE WHERE THEY WILL LIVE IN LUXURY, THE REST OF THIER DAYS.
