    Tapeworms

I just got Tibbys results from her fecal exam today and she has tapeworms ( Has anyone else cat had this before? I know that they get it from fleas, but do you know if other cats cat catch it too? I guess I'll be bringing in a fecal sample from Corky when I take Tibby to the vet on Thurs to get dewormed.

Yuck! So sorry Tibby has this problem. I haven't experienced it myself, but have heard it's pretty contagious. Hope I've heard wrong. Good luck to you and to Tibby. Hang in there, sweet baby.

    RE " Tapeworms

Don't worry; it is completey curable!!

It will require drugs and some testing of fecal matter, but tapeworms are completely curable nowadays, thank goodness!
You are doing the right thing by taking your cat to the vet and the other one as soon as possible.

Your vet will tell you all the things that you have to do and in about a week the cats will be fine.
It is disturbing to hear this, but you are doing all that any responsible cat owner can do. So try to relax and just do what you have to do....let us know what happens, please....all the best to you and your lovely cats from Deborah in Montreal, Canada

I looked around online and found out that tapeworms are not transferable from cat to cat. So I feel much better. But I'm still going to get Corky tested just in case. And the lady at the shelter I got Tibby from also said the same thing. The lady at the shelter was so nice, she offered to pay the vet bill since she obviously had it when she lived at the shelter too and she just didn't diagnose it. But I told her that Tibby is my cat now and that's it's ok. WHen you adopt a can especially from a shelter you know that you may have to spend a little money at the vet when you first get them. And plus she works so hard to keep her shelter, she works only on donations and her own hard earned money. I told her it was silly to offer to pay the bill.

Glad you caught it, glad she offered to help with the vet bills, and good luck in getting everybody checked, cured and well again!

I'm so sorry that Tibby has tapeworms but I'm glad that you caught it and that it's treatable. I don't have any experience with this either but Pepper did have roundworms when he was a kitten and I was told that this is very common in kittens. Good luck and please keep us posted. I sure hope that Corkscrew doesn't have them too.

    Tapeworms are common

And they are easily gotten rid of with a couple of pills, usually. I had one cat with them, briefly, and the Vet treated both of them, to be sure. They can transfer from litter use as well. At the time, my cats were inside cats and did not have fleas. Go figure!

Don't panic, its pretty common! I think the pill costs .09 cents....its the Vet visit that kills your pocketbook! But the pets are worth it!

So sorry to hear little Tibby has tapeworms. I have no experience with any kind of worms (thank goodness), but it sounds like it's completely treatable and will be gone in no time. I'm glad you're going to check Corky too, better to be safe than sorry. Good luck and let us know how they are both doing.
