Bichon Frise Buddy, and his bonded pal, Cassie, were foster dogs here for 48 hours in July 2007. It wasn't working as they didn't get along well with cats, so Buddy and Cassie went to live with foster dad Joe in Connecticut. They have been there since.
Buddy was 38 pounds when he came in to rescue. Joe worked with diet and exercise so Buddy lost 8 pounds. With some arthritis meds and care, he was much more limber, able to walk more easily and even do a blitz now and then.
You can see photos of Buddy in this thread:

Buddy became ill about 2 weeks ago. At first, vestibular syndrome was suspected. Unfortunately, time and diagnostics indicated a brain tumor was causing the problems. Sunday night into Monday, Buddy was in pain and screamed most of the night. Joe rushed Buddy to the ER clinic, and stayed with him all day Monday. Buddy slipped into a coma and died early yesterday.
Joe brought Buddy home for Cassie to see and say her farewells. They were QUITE a bonded pair, she has been lost since Buddy left the house, so Joe hopes this will help her to adjust. Buddy will be cremated and Joe will keep the ashes in an urn in his home.
It is very rare for Small Paws Rescue to lose a foster dog, and everyone is taking this hard. We do have dogs in hospice care, which is different. A foster dog who gets sick, well, we raise funds and the white coats help them get better. This is so unusual. I spoke with Joa tthe Bash on Saturday, and he had filled me in on Buddy's situation.
RIP Buddy. And I know your momma, who went to Rainbow Bridge 14 months ago, was waiting to greet your with open arms, and probably a few treats as well!
