Juni-Get-Down had three teeth extracted today!

The vet scaled Juni's widdle teeth today. I knew that one tooth was in need of being removed but not three! She had two upper large teeth on either side removed as well as one of her long fangs in the front. They gave me all three, in a little jar. Juni seems ok and very hungry. They gave her a pain med injection before she left so it will be good for 24 hours. She will be on meds for five days, to prevent infection. She is quiet right now, but doing ok, still hissing at her buddy Lucy. She spent hours cleaning herself, to get that "vet stink" off her. The other two cats didn't seem to notice the stink.

The total bill was $250, which I thought was reasonable. They gave her subq fluids, pills etc. all for that amount. I was expecting $500.

I am going to keep the teeth out in the open, to remind me to brush her teeth as well as Lucy and Chloe's teethies!

I'm sorry to hear that she had to have 3 teeth extracted but I'm glad to hear that she's now doing well. I know that Aby's are known to have poor teeth so I guess they need even more attention with their teeth. The amount that you were charged was very reasonable. Storm had his teeth cleaned and had to have 2 tiny teeth extracted and his bill was much more than that.

My vet sent me home with CET Oral Hygiene Rinse by Virbac and I just use a q-tip and dip it in the liquid and then I swab it over the front part of my cats teeth and gumline. It's much easier than brushing their teeth and it helps to prevent plaque, calculus maturation, and bad breath. It has chlorhexidine and zinc in it. You might want to try this too.

Poor little Juni. Filou sends his best get-well wishes. He knows how it is as he lost one of his fangs all by his own and he needs his toothies cleaned every one and a half year at the latest.
He says he would never allow them to be brushed.

Kisses for Juni's cute little nosie.

Oh, so sorry that Juni lost 3 teeth but so glad to hear that she's on good pain meds that will help her along.
    Blessings,

Juni, I hope you are feeling back to normal after having two teeth pulled! I'm sure it feels good to have clean teeth and a fresh breath. Now take your medicine like a good girl - and I'm sure your mom will give you some yummy treats after.

    The yogurt trick

I knew Juni was going in for the teeth cleaning so for the past few weeks, I had been allowing her to lick the yogurt containers after I finished with them.... The other two cats are not in to yogurt, so it seemed to me that instead of wrestling her to the ground each time she might need a pill, I would crush the pill and put it in her yogurt. I did find out just moments ago that the yogurt MUST stay in the container......I guess she needs to know that it was what I left for her.....so I smash the pill, mix it into a small amount of yogurt and then place that in the very top section of the empty yogurt container....and leave the spoon for her too....just like when we did it BEFORE there was medication added! C A T S ! They are so smart.

The vet called this morning to check on Juni. Juni seemed to have a quiet night, sleeping in a soft chair all night, only to move to my unmade bed once I got up.....she seems fine!

The yoghurt story gave me a good laugh
The trick is: they want to have the feeling they stole it by themselves. Cat piratery
If you give it them in their bowl they know it is their's and they won't have it. But in a container with a human spoon- now there's a different story

I suppose, she has to feel like she is *sneaking* the yogurt in order to really enjoy it! I hope she feels better soon and no more ouchy teeth!

    Thanks

Juni has been very quiet today. She usually spends her days and nights, stalking Lucy. It's something new. For the longest time, Juni was getting chased. The tables have turned. The fact that she might not be feeling so hot, has kept her from stalking. She has been following me from room to room, but leaving Lucy alone for the time being. I am sure she will revert to her usual bossy cat self, soon.

I haven't had the nerve or figured out a way, to look in her mouth to see what they did. I did ask, and there are no stitches. She should feel better soon, as they said they were sure she was uncomfortable with those nasty teeth in the back.... We had been keeping an eye on them, year after year, and then finally decided it was time to kiss them goodbye. The fang was not damaged, just ready to fall out!

It is very quiet around here these days.

  11. Love the yogurt story!!

You are a very brave woman. I asked Edwina if I could brush her teeth.

She asked how well I like my fingers.

Poor widdle Juni-Get-Down! I hope by now you are feeling a bit better.
When Max last went in he had 3 toofies removed including an upper and lower fang on the same side as well as a couple in the back. He was right back to normal after about 4 days or so.

SAS: I too, had to laugh at the yogurt trick!

ES: At least you had the nerve to ask. I never even broached the subject with Max.

    Back to normal

Juni is up and about. I have had to say "get down" oh, at least 10 times today. Mostly the kitchen counter and waiting to see if any food COULD be hers. I am trying to keep her appetite up, so that when she is fed wet food, her fav, she will gobble it up/down, along with the medication. I suppose the other two fur faces won't be harmed by eating a little medication....along with the Fancy Feast.....Gourmet flavors....

Thanks for all the kind words.

The gentle billing couldn't have been better timed. My previous visit with Chloe for her annual checkup and shots went less than smoothly. There was a new vet (partner) and staff and boy were they NOT friendly. Chloe growled the entire time. They didn't talk to her or pet her...just serviced her, if you will. I was going to complain but decided I wasn't going to switch clinics because of one bad experience and that I would just ask to see a particular vet....not the unfriendly one. I thought it would be best to let someone else complain for a change.

Again, thanks for all the get well wishes for Ms. Busy Paws aka Juni Get Down. She is one tough cookie. And she is loved.

Glad Juni is feeling better! Poor girl, losing 3 teeth, that had to have hurt. I've only ever had my wisdom teeth pulled (and that was last year), and it was not a pleasant experience, even with the valium and pain meds they gave me to take at home (pain meds, not valium, lol).

My Honeybun needs to have a dental done badly. He's FIV+, and FIV+ kitties are known to have bad teeth. His breath could wake the dead, and he drools. I so need to save money up to get that done, but have to make sure I can pay my mortgage first... darn FMLA... it's blessing and a curse, but glad it's done with now!

Good luck with brushing Juni's teeth! I haven't brushed my guys teeth, and not sure they'd allow it either!

About vets... the one vet I go to has a great bedside manner with the kitties, and he's really easy on the eyes as well. The other vet is great with the feral and hard to deal with kitties, and she's fantastic, but she did scare the bejesus out of a few of my kitties before. Had one pee all over the table with her! I felt so bad for him, he was a sensitive boy and not one for being manhandled!
