We were about 5 miles from the launch site! It was AWESOME to see. Hope you all enjoyed. I know they kind of look pretty much the same but I got camera happy ;D

That is so cool! We had just missed the launch by a few days when we were there a couple years ago. But we did tour the NASA Space Center and that was loads of fun.
    Thanks for sharing these pictures.

Oh thank you SO very much! Must be quite something to see "live," rather than on TV.

The shuttle program is winding down, will end in 2010.

They are developing a new shuttle that will replace the existing shuttles, it is supposed to be more efficient to launch into space, and more cost effective.

Was that in Titusville you were taking the pictures from, Traci? It's great to see it in central Florida but to go there is something everybody should try to do before the program ends. Years ago when I went down, it was amazing to see how relatively easy it was to find parking and good places to see it from. Of course I would go several hours ahead. Great pics!!

Wow! Neat! I watched it on TV too and wondered, just like Liz, if it was loud where you were. You got some great pictures.

Thanks everyone. No it was not loud where we were. We could hear it though just kind of a rumbly sound. We wanted to get closer but we drove all the way from the other coast and did not get there until about 4:30 or so. Traffic was backed up for over 3.5 hours leaving there!! Of course on the bikes we could not stand the heat sitting like that so we just took short cuts through some of the neighborhoods to get past it. I am glad everyone liked the pictures. I think I took about 70

D&D I am not sure...we were actually heading to Kennedy Space Station and we came across this place. We decided just to squeeze out on the dock with about 1000 others LOL. I do have to say it was stinky! The stinkiest town I have ever been in....PU!
