My very empty bank account.. and very rich vet.

I called it! Whenever I bring in one dog for an exam, I *know* I'm gonna bring at least one more for an unrelated issue within the same week. It always happens! They like to gang up on my bank account at the same time.

Kaedyn went in to the vets last week for a routine exam. Everything's fine with my old man.. just a little chunky.

Kai went in yesterday. His right ear recently started getting a lot of buildup and some dried blood debris. I also managed to clip his skin when trying to tackle some hidden mats behind his ears. Boy I've never felt so guilty in my life!

Anyway, long story short, my bank account is empty, and I found out he has a tooth he chipped that needs to be taken care of asap. It's one of the big molars at the back. I had the choice of getting a root canal ($1000) or extraction ($40). I was considering the root canal until she mentioned it may very well shatter and I figured if he chipped his natural tooth eating bones, it won't likely hold up against bones when I feed him raw again. *sigh* This "$40" extraction is going to cost close to $700 after it's all said and done.

Sigh.. there goes my plan on buying a new agility tunnel. Needless to say, my boy will be taken care of asap. I have a meeting with the bank about starting a line of credit.

Oh my, I am almost laughing, it's the way you tell the story, ha haaa.

That is great news for Kaedyn, a good report and no meds or speical food (as yet) to treat the weight issue. Done deal, yippee!

Now Kia, you really don't need to try and keep up with everyone else! Watch what you are chewing on there.

Since you feed raw (and I know only enough to be dangerous in this area as I do not) can you avoid weight bearing bones? I understand that those are the tougher ones.

Want some prayers for your wallet? I do know what that is like!

Yes, prayers for my wallet would be wonderful! LOL! I was planning on moving up from a Corolla to a Caravan for the dogs.. it won't happen if they keep ganging up on me like that!

They're all eating kibble for now. I will add some warm water to soften up Kai's food for the next little while. I admit I don't check their teeth regularly because I toss them bones now and then to keep them white. I will have to keep a closer eye on them now that he only has one good side.. no more beef bones for him. Strictly poultry!

Oh no! Poor little Kaibaby. =( I hope he feels better soon, Ashley... and I hope your wallet does, too.

I know exactly how you feel. On Friday, Fozzie suddenly didn't want to eat cookies and wouldn't let me open his jaw. I waited a day to see if it was just a little sore, but it wasn't much better so I went to the Vet. They had to sedate him ($250), and FOUND NOTHING! Nothing. His teeth were perfect, his tonsils were fine, and his jaw was only a little swollen. But they did do some accupuncture on his jaw, and gave me some pain meds. They said it must be strained. $300 for a sore muscle... but it is worth the peace of mind. : ) And, incidentally, Gonzo is going in for shots and such this week.

Oh well, they're more than worth it. But mannn, I get SO annoyed when a Vet quotes only the ACT that they're doing... instead of what the total cost will be. "The neuter will be $80." Then when they're done, "Uh... yeah... well... with anesthesia and after-care and meds, it's $350." I would rather they just told me up front. I guess, maybe, it's because some owners flip their lid, but it's more annoying to get a bill for way more than they originally told you.

No kidding eh!? Our new vet sends us estimates that look like actual invoices.. with price breakdowns and everything. Gawd, I'd flip if they told me $40 for an extraction and got an invoice for $700

Yikes! Prayers for your bank account are on the way.

Wow, sorry to hear that Ashley. I hope the boys behave themselves and don't find anything else to worry you or your bank account. And Keeva, you too, little girl, stay healthy, no boo-boos.

    That's awesome. You're lucky!

It seems like when ever we get anything done at our Vet... it goes over the original quote by at least $50. But they're so nice, and they're raw advocates, so whatev.
