    What breed/mix is my dog???

    Hello,

I am new to this and would like to post some pictures of my dog to see if anyone can help identify what breed/mix my dog might be. Can anyone tell me how I can post attachments or go about getting permission to do so???

    Thanks!

On the post reply page if you scroll down further you will see a box that says Additional options. Inside that box is a rectangle that says Manage Attachments. Click on that and it will open a seperate box with Browse options. Click on the browse button then go to the area of your computer where you have your picturees. Click on the picture you want, click on Open, and they should attach. Good Luck.

    Thanks!

    Hello,

These are my dogs Juno and Kahlua, they are both rescued mixed breeds. Kahlua (brown dog) is supposedly a chocolate lab/border collie mix and I believe it is true. Both dogs were adopted as puppies and are about a year old now. Juno (blue eyes) is the one I need some help with... I was told he was a husky mix when we adopted him and I think he might be, but we can't figure out what other breed(s) he might be mixed with? Any suggestions???
He has very very thick short hair, webbed toes and spots on his belly and inside of his mouth. He howls like a hound and is very shy. We just can't figure it out! Our vet thinks he might be mixed with a bully breed or even a lab. Many people have told me he looks like a catahoula leopard dog because of his eyes and coloring. Whatever he is.... we love him and his adopted sister more than anything in the world. They are truly the best dogs ever!!!!!!!!!!

    Any suggestions???

He does look a lot like a Catahoula!! I wouldn't say that is a likely mix (but always possible) unless you live in the south where they are more common.

His face and ears really scream Pit Bull to me, as well as his general body shape. My guess is Husky/Pit Bull. He is a beautiful boy! I just love those eyes. Your little Labbie girl is presh as well.

    Hello!
Both of your kids are beautiful. As for Juno, I do see a lot Catahoula and possibly some lab? He is beautiful whatever he is.

He may be a mix of more than two breeds - I see Catahoula definitely in the eyes, and his "hound" behavior, Lab in the webbed toes and yellow coloring, and maybe Boxer for the breadth of his face and the white markings!

    I know for sure, though - he's 100% DOG!

    More pics...

Thank you for your comments. I do not live in the south, we live in NJ but the rescue group that I adopted Juno from rescued him from a puppy mill in VA. To me he does look a lot like a catahoula but I have never seen one in person, only in pictures from the research I've done. Does anyone know of any way to determine a dog's breed or mix of breeds for sure? The curiosity is killing me! Juno is unlike any dog I've ever seen and has such a random mix of characteristics that I can't even say he acts like any particular breed. Although, I've been told he acts like a typical husky... I really don't know. Here are a few more pictures that might help! Any more suggestions? I'd really appreciate any advice.

    There is DNA testing available:

They're not always reliable or realistic. If you get your tests results back, take them with a grain of salt

I also thought American Bulldog - maybe a cross between Catahoula and American Bulldog. Lots of people aren't familiar with them so here are

    Jake

    and

    Lugg

for two examples. You baby's blue eyes, and taller, narrower build are definitely consistent with the Catahoula - and the hound behavior, too!

Thanks for the feedback! I've considered trying one of those DNA tests before but I'm not sure if it will pick up non-popular breeds like the catahoula or even APBT (although they're popular, they're not on the list). Does anyone have any additional information on catahoula's? I have been able to find some information online but most of it is pretty repetitive and not very helpful. I was hoping maybe someone might even own a catahoula or catahoula mix and would be able to comment? anyone??? What about husky? Although I was told Juno was a husky mix... I don't see much husky in him other than his eyes and really thick coat. I don't know why I want to know so bad... it's not like it really matters but as he gets older, I want to know even more! I guess I figured, I would be able to tell as he grew up but... I'm so confused!
    Any suggestions??? Thanks again!

I don't see any husky in him.

I agree with the others who see Catahoula.

And while they are indeed more common in the south, you never know where a "pocket" of a certain breed will show up. I used to work at a very small shelter in a small city in Wyoming ... literally the middle of nowhere. And for some reason, we had three purebred Catahoulas show up in one year, from different owners and situations. It was very strange.

And when I worked a a shelter in Colorado we got a LOT of Jindos in during one year. In fact, I adopted one and still have him. Jindos are a relatively rare breed, originating on Jindo island in Korea. The only place they are present in any number in the US in in Los Angeles, where there a large Korean population settled. We couldn't figure it out at first, until someone made the connection that a group of Korean people had moved to our small town in Colorado to work temporarily in a meat packing plant, bringing their Jindos with them.

Catahoulas are AWESOME dogs! I adore them and hope to have one someday. I think they are the most stunning of all the herding breeds here's more about them.

this is the catahoula cur but I think it's pretty much the same breed although the catahoula curs are more stocky like a great dane - catahoulas are usually the size of an aussie or a border collie
