Zizou is adorable and you're going to love having her in your family more and more as she gets older!* I have a Chow mix (mainly Chow) and she is the smartest, most loving, loyal and protective companion I've ever known.* She does have typical Chow tendencies: aggressiveness toward strangers (especially men), very female aggressive--has to be the top bitch in the room, very protective of her Mommie.* She will love on someone and lick their face but if they look at me in the wrong way---she'll go for their throat, or in the case of men--the crotch!* My girl is a rescue off the highway.* I found her as I was heading home one day in rush hour traffic, she was about to get hit or cause an accident.* A couple of years ago, she and my boyfriend's female German Shepherd began to fight with one another every time they met up.* It started slowly with just growling and nipping until one day it escalated to the point that I thought they were going to kill each other.* I tried to break up their fight with a water hose, hitting them with the hose and grabbing them by the collar.* I got my dog but my hand got in the way of the German Shepherd's attack and she latched onto it instead of my dog.* My right hand was mauled and I almost lost my pinky finger.* It was a mistake and not the dog's fault and I know the German Shepherd never would have done such a thing on purpose.* That dog would die for me just as my sweet Chow would.* Anyway, after much rehabilitation my hand is at about 97% function, which is as good as it will get.* It also took a long time for me to be able to hear the sound of dogs growling and playing or barking and even now, I am sensitive about it.* TV and films with dogs fighting or attacking will upset me but I have gotten much stronger since the early days of the mauling.* My relationship with the German Shepherd is not what it used to be, even though it wasn't her fault.* I love the dog but do not give her the same level of affection as I did a few years ago.* I am sure Zizou and family will have a wonderful life together!* Just always be aware of the personality traits of a Chow.* The German Shepherd traits will mainly show as intelligence and affection but the Chow side will be much more complex. The love and loyalty of a Chow is worth the extra efforts it may take to socialize her.
