    ??? about Plants & cats

Well, we got MIl's new kitty, Sprinkles, home today and she just walked right in and acted like she already owns the place! Hee-hee.

I noticed MIL has a basket on her floor with 3 different types of plants in it and the kitty did go sniff all over it and then got bored and walked away. So, do you think she'll likely always leave it be or should I have her move it out of kitty reach? Does anyone know what common household plants are NOT kitty safe?

    TIA!

There are a rare few cats that don't bother houseplants or even fake plants. However that said, it's ALWAYS safer to just put the plants outside or in a room the cat doesn't go into, since there is not really any good place up high that a cat CAN'T get up too. I've even seen cats manage to get into hanging baskets! It's always best to be safe rather than sorry by finding out later that something bad happened.

I echo that. No plant is safe forever from the kitty monster! I have some of the rarest varieties of plants around: they all have "aerated" leaves = l;eaves with holes in them. LOL. I don't keep anything around unless it is FINE for them to eat it. Basically I have barley grass, and a cactus. (Sparkle even bit the cactus when she was a kitten. OUCH!)
And no, artificial plants are NOT safe from curious cats. Those get pulle dout of the vase and turned into cat toys.

Ok, thanks! I will move it today. If MIL doesn't mind, I'll ask her if I can bring it to my house. My cat is a big slug that doesn't bother ANYTHING unless it's dipped in ice cream!

I have lots of green plants in my window sills, but none dangerous to cats. Fister is not really interested either, only if I get a new one, then he'll sniff it and just walk away. However, some cats like to get into plants, so better safe then sorry.

Neither Eddie nor Edwina has ever been interested in house plants. Eddie likes to smell cut flowers and Edwina has always enjoyed roses outside...to sit by.

Eddie does have a thing for some artifical forsythia branches. He leans through the stair railing, pulls one out and carries it upstairs to put it beside my bed. During the night.

They both enjoy eating grass and eating/sleeping in the catnip outside.

I have even had poinsettia...they just have no interest.
