    Last week's snow storm

We had quite the storm come through here on Thursday afternoon and evening. It arrived earlier than predicted, snowed faster than predicted, and made for quite a mess. In Providence (next city over, and the state capital) school let out early at 1 PM. The last 60 buses didn't deliver the children home until 11:10 PM! The whole city was a traffic jam, with trucks and buses stuck, cars abandoned, and no way for towers or plows to get through to help. This was NOT a blizzard, not even close. Just a mess up in the city and school depts. and a whole lot of NO COMMUNICATION. Today the state's Emergency Management Director was fired; we suspect a few more will also go. The middle school and high school kids were rowdy but OK; but the little ones were crying for the moms, and the bus drivers and monitors really did a great job keeping them calm. Two buses go stuck outside a Coca Cola Bottling plant, which operates 3 shifts. The plant workers opened their doors (and their hearts), took the kids in, let them use the bathroom, opened the vending machines and distributed the items, sang with the kids and just did what they could to help. Similar stories from all over the city, of people helping people when the government failed.

Anyway, nothing so dramatic here. Only thing here, as it was the first storm of the season, I forgot to buy gas for the snow blower. One of my neighbors came over and made a path for me to get the car out and go get it. He wanted to do the whole driveway, but heck, with the price of gas?

    From inside my garage:

That orange bag is the morning newspaper. Our carrier has a good arm to get it so close in for us! (The foot prints are from me, not the carrier.)

    Back yard

Then 3 days later we had an ice storm and everything froze! This is the backyard. Before the ice storm, Dad used the snow blower to make paths for the dogs. The 11 inches of snow was up to their chinny chin chins So they had to have paths to get out there. Once it iced over, they couldn't even walk well on the paths, and we ended up taking them out front and using the driveway for 2 days. Here is Sugar in the back yard. It is night time, not sure if you can see the light glowing off the iced surface, especially behind the rear fence. Can you find Sugar in these 2 photos? She IS in there, I assure you, he he.

WOW! I haven't seen that much snow around here in a long time! Poor kids and worried parents! How nice of the local businesses to help them out like that!!!

I love your pictures but I admit I did have some trouble at first finding Sugar in the snow. Bella blends in too at night. I am surprised that your area was taken by surprise by the storm. Around here when we have a snowstorm on the way the media plays it up so big that people are scared out of their wits getting ready (buying milk and bread like they wouldn't be able to get out for a month ). It sounds like not only do you have a pretty special neighbor, but the folks at Coca Cola were pretty special too. I will think of your story next time I have a Coke. That was really sweet!

Oh, by the way, I think we'd all like to see four bichons in the snow in the next storm!

Hint taken, I will try. Ozzy doesn't "do" snow; he uses the front Living Room.

Neat pictures! I like the last one especially since Sugar is in it, but I had to search really hard to find a white dog on white snow!

That's nice that your community was so helpful to those in need. I will have to share the Coca-Cola story with my brother since he works for them driving a Coke truck!
