    Neat article on cnn.com

I ran across this just now on cnn.com, about dealing with sick and aging pets and the options that are out there. There are pet hospices now.

And Thats Of Course A Sad Fact Of Being A Pet Guardian, And Thats The Fact That You Are Going To Outlive Your Companion.

There's no proving it, of course, but I think humans are the only species to fear death itself. It baffles me when humans are willing to go through months or years of pain, nausea, and dragging down their families' futures just to avoid crossing the line. Or they get put through it by families who are uncomfortable about not having treated them better when they were healthy, medical establishments who can milk the family for more money that way, or even used as pawns in family feuds, with the parties egged on by unscrupulous attorneys. Quality of life, heck - sometimes I think quality of death would be worth thinking about!

Cats, dogs, everybody else - of course they don't want to be in pain or feel lousy, but I don't get the impression that they fear death. Like Isaac Asimov said, "Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It's the transition that's troublesome."
