Unhappy Dog visiting for Thanksgiving - help!

I have a generally well-behaved miniature schnauzer. I am keeping my friend's schnoodle for a week... in general, the dogs get along well, but my dog is being territorial and jealous. He's going after the schnoodle whenever the schnoodle comes to me for attention. My schnauzer has also tried to attack the schnoodle when the schnoodle barked at my dog (when my dog tried to steal food/toy from the schnoodle). HELP! Am I supposed to let them figure out dominance? I don't want anyone hurt! Any thoughts about this would be appreciated.

This is just my opinion... not necessarily advice.

Since it is just for a week I wouldn't worry about trying to get them to get along. Just try and keep them separated. I know it will be a lot harder giving them both the attention they deserve, but it's better than an emergency trip to the vet. (especially if your friend didn't give you a permission slip to have the dog treated if need be. Sometimes there is no backpedaling once you've admitted that it's not your dog.)

If this were a dog that would be staying with you much longer, than socializing the two to each other would be more important.

    Good luck!!!

Please, if your dog is arthritic look into getting it Elk Velvet Antler. Look up my posts on it, PM me, or look it up on a search engine; but please if you love your dog and want it to live many more years consider this option. I've seen so many posts on here about dogs needlessly suffering. I can't make a new post about EVA every time so this plea is going here. EVA also helps with other ailments such as anemia.

Put yourself in your dogs paws...
Here you are in YOUR house and another dog comes along and thinks that you're going to share his masters attention, food, treats... etc.

It's just natural for your dog to show the other dog that he's in charge. I'd keep them seperated as much as possible. You need to make sure you give your dog it's food first, then the other dog. Same with treats and attention. This will help your dog realize that he is still top dog in the house.

For the most part when it comes to establishing pack order and they have a squable, it's mostly noise and it sounds like one is killing the other but more times than not no blood is shed.
Not saying that it can't happen, that's why it's best to keep them seperated when you can't keep a VERY close eye on them.

I agree with the others- best to keep them separated. None of you needs the stress- and fights can happen in a split second.
