    Ah help me pick!

I'm getting a horse sometimes after Christmas.
I posted a ad on a horse site and someone e mailed me saying they have a 18 yr old who did shows and is now just used for hacking, and a 10 yr old who did dressage , hunter jumper and does trails and is road safe. I really like the sounds of the 10 yr old and want to meet them BUT there is a horse from my old barn who is being leased out to a schooling barn and I asked about him. The lady leased him out because she can't afford to keep 2 horses. This lady is a old friend of my barn owners the horse is gorgeous and he is very well behaved. I asked about him too.
But before I asked about him I asked the first lady if I went to see her horses if she would hold them until I can keep one (she's a hour away so I dont want to go there like the horse and her not keep it for me) she said which ever one I like she would keep for me.

My barn is full right now but a horse is leaving soon and that opens a stall but I don't know if she is letting mehave it because I was asking about her freinds horse. I really would rather not switch barns I really like mine.

Sorry if any of it sounds confusing. I just don't know who to pick. I feel bad if I say I found another horse to the first lady, but the other lady has been looking for a good owner for so long and I know she'd love if he was at the same barn where she could see him. Maybe I'll just wait till she calls me back and go from there.

I will try and get pictures up of the 18 yr old and the 10 yr old.

Yeah.... you lost me in all that!

For what it's worth, my suggestion is to take the people out of the situation. See which horse fits your likes/dislikes and needs. Ultimately, the horse will be the one you'll be dealing with on a daily basis.

I thought it would sound confusing. It's hard when you can't use names.

I was thinking the same, but what if I like both horses?
I'll see the barn owner's friends horse first so I guess see where to go after I try him out.

If you go out and try both horses and really like both horses, then I would say the ten year old, just because you will have more time to ride and jump him (if you want to jump him) then the 18 year old. But you may find the 10 yr old to be horrible and fall in love with the 18 year old.

Plus, I'd like to see some PICTURES! hahahhahaa :]

And if it comes to this, eenie-meenie-miney-moe is always a good problem solver

I agree with the poster who said take the people out of the picture. Find the horse that best fits for you, since you have to have a good relationship. The rest will work itself out.

Thanks Jess for the great sig of my kids!

I'll try and type it out easier.
I'm looking mostly for a good trail horse who is road safe and also kid safe.
But I do like jumping and I mostly canter.

    Person A
    -lives a hour away
    -don't know her
-has both 18 yr ols mare and 10 yr old gelding (both Thouroughbreds)
-I would like to look at to 10 yr old
    - I asked her to hold him until spring (or sooner) and she said yes.
-10 yr old did dressage, hunter jumper, trail and road safe.

    Person B
-A friend of my barn owners
-Her horse is currently being leased out to a schooling barn
-She can't afford both her horses but couldn't find a good home for him
-I don't know if my barn owner is letting me use a stall because I would be getting her friends horse
    -He's a very good horse w/t/c/ jumps

I think I'll do what others have said and just see what one is for me.
I'll see person B's horse first (his name is Poppy). I'll try and get some pictures but can't garuntee anything.
I'm still working on getting the other horses pictures up, they won't upload on photobucket.

EDIT: Here's person A's 10 yr old gelding. She didn't give me the greatest pictures, they have their fly masks on.

Hmm I can't really say I know too much about horses but that 10 year old sounds like he's a great boy! Good luck.

He's a nice looking boy, I don't see anything physically wrong with him in that picture. He's definitely worth taking a look at if Poppy doesn't work out or you dont feel he's a good fit for you.

Thanks Jess for the great sig of my kids!

I decided it may not be the greatest to get Poppy. He would be in the same barn as his old owner and I think it would just make me uncomfortable. She would always be watching me and I think she'd try and control what I do with him and he would just feel less like my own horse.
I'll probly still go see him but tell them I didn't like the way he feels and that I know of another horse.

    okay,
I really like the 10 yr old. Definitely go see him. BUT...maybe check out the 10 yr old first so when you see Poppy you will know whether to tell them maybe or definitely NO.

How would the OLD owner control him?

I was wondering about that myself, if maybe the old owner would try to "help" you with him more than you wanted to try to interfere, not necessairly trying to be rude or mean, but she's loved him so it would be hard to let someone else have full care of him and not have any say. I think it might make me feel uncomfortable too, I dunno though.

How would the OLD owner control him?
By saying oh well he really likes this, oh you should do this, he needs this etc type things. Pretty much what Vela said.

No that's the other horse, person A's horse.

    oh that would suck.
i'd just say "SHUT UP i don't care what he liked when you were his owner, because he's MINE now!!"

But I still like the 10 yr old :]

Well Poppy is out of the picture. His owner might have to put her other horse down so he is going to go to a new home.
