    Any ideas?

Pouncer has pure liquid diarrhea. I mean, its so watery you'd think its was pee in the litterbox. Allen has loose stool, but nothing compared to Pouncer.

I tried the vet and they're not open. Good grief, I CAN NOT afford this but since Pouncer's been so sick, I have to take him in.

He's on a new food, perhaps thats it? But the diarrhea started this week, and he's been on the food for a month now. Any ideas? Stress? Could he have eaten something? If its a bacteria or parasite, everyone would be sick with liquid poo too (dear God, I pray not! I did that for a whole summer a few years ago.... I can't go through that again!)

    Sigh.

If it's an allergy to something in the new food, sometimes that can take a while to sensitize up to maximum effect, but I'm really just guessing - I have no medical or veterinary training whatsoever.

Well I have a 3:40 vet appointment. I have the stool sample (completely covered in litter I hope they can do something with it)

The vet thinks the diarrhea is completely unrelated to the food or surgery.

Kim, I'm so sorry to hear this. Is he still on any kind of medication? When Storm had his PU surgery, he was on some liquid antibiotics for quite a while because he also had a very bad UTI. This medicine gave him liquid diarrhea and there was nothing that I could do about it. I tried giving him canned pumpkin but he hated it. Finally after he was off of the meds for a few days, he started becoming normal again.

I sure hope it's nothing serious and that the vet will be able to help Pouncer. I also hope that he's not getting dehydrated. What new food is he now eating? What is the fiber content? Maybe it doesn't have enough fiber for him. If he likes canned pumpkin I'd try giving him some of this to see if it'll help. Sweet potatos or any kind of squash are also good sources of fiber. I'll continue to keep him in my thoughts and prayers.

My boy's going to be just fine. He's not dehydrated.... if you saw how much water he's been drinking you'd understand why
He's recently decided Nicki's bowl is the greatest place to drink

The verdict is that they are missing the high-fiber of their old food. So I ordered a 17 pound bag of it and will pick it up next week. It makes sense and its something I wondered myself; their old food was weight management high-fiber. They've all gained weight and has loose stools since switching food. Silly kitties!

(PS: You should see Harry! He's gotten especially "fluffy" on the new food )

I just saw this thread, and I'm glad they found out that it was a simple problem causing the diarrhea and it should be gone soon.

I wanted to comment for the benefit of cat owners because of this...

We get alot of clients that don't/won't bring stool samples for cats because of litter in it. One of my jobs as vet assistant is to run the stool samples. Litter is NOT a problem. The liquid we put in the test tube with the sample separates litter and allows us to get down to the parasites and eggs.

What DOESN'T work is when people bring in stool samples in paper towels/toilet paper/kleenexes. Those things absorb the sample and we usually can't get that separated out. Anything NON absorbent works zip lock baggies, old butter dishes or basically anything plastic.

Also any stool sample has to be SOFT for us to run it. An old sample two days old or more is too hard to run. I run into this more often with dog owners who took the dog out in the wee dark hours of the morning and had to guess which sample was the most current one, usually it's the old one they end up bringing.

Frozen samples are impossible to run because freezing kills off the parasite eggs resulting in a false negative (refrigerating is fine though).

Just wanted to give a heads up that might make some other vet assistants job easier, and help out those pet owners who didn't think they could bring in a sample because of litter or being liquidy.

Thank you for that information. I've always wondered if the litter was a problem and didn't take a sample in when I should have. In fact, I need to now.
