I have one and his name is Hans. He's going to be 5 in September. He's loves people and all animals. He's a very well socialized dog. He's quite a yapper though. That would probably be his only downfall. He's very well behaved and great with kids too. He is dominant and especially food dominant. I think the ranking in our house would be:

    1. my husband
    2. Hans
    3. Fritz
    4. Me!!!

We have been Schnauzer Lovers for over 15 years starting with Kona who passed over the Rainbow Bridge last October.
We now have two Schnauzers, Miss Daisy and Perry who are both three. Each Schnauzer is very different.
Perry is very loving to the family, but also very territorial and protective. He is salt and pepper in color.
Daisy is very independent, pretty much does as she pleases, and very loving when she feels like it. Daisy is black.
I hate to say this, but neither of them like to be around small children so we are very careful about this.
I wouldn't trade my Schnauzers for anything in this world.
If you would like to see them you can look at our website. http://schnauzerville.homestead.com
Finally, a person who loves Schnauzers, yaaaaaaa!

    Jackie,

I often wonder why Hans is so good around kids and other dogs. I don't think this is typical of the schnauzer breed. Is it?

Tanya, I am guessing that Hans was socialized with other people and dogs when he was a puppy so is used to them
In our case, we are retired and are with Daisy and Perry all the time, they have not been exposed to small children or any other dogs except our daughter-in-laws Schnauzers and they get along fine with them. It is our fault that they are that way, as we didn't know enough to socialize them like we should have, so we are very careful in taking them out anywhere. I may be wrong, but looking on the Schnauzer Rescue board, most Schnazers are not adopted to families with small children, I think you are very fortunate that Hans is so easy to get along with.

I like Schnauzers. The Giant ones are my favorite. I'm not sure I could put up with the extra grooming required though. I'm used to just a brushing once a week required for my Rottie
