Grrrr... is my dog's health less important???

    I'm very frustrated right now.
A coworker's daughter had ear surgery last week and she has been allowed to have her baby here in the room and/or in a sick room all week. Crying baby in the office sometime. Fine. Whatever. She is ill.

Well, Smokey is getting neutered next Friday. I work on Saturdays. Barely anyone is here on Saturdays. I wanted to bring Smokey with me so he wouldn't have to be crated all day Saturday while Pork Chop and everyone else gets to run around and play. But no. I can't. Not even if he's in his crate all day. Which I don't think he'd really mind. I think he'd rather be crated in here with me rather than at home, alone, watching Pork Chop frollic outside.

So, instead, either I work a 1/2 day and use up my personal time, or I leave him at home all day. How is this fair??! He's MY BABY!!!!!!!

Damn. I really need a pet-friendly work environment.

It would be great if more businesses were pet friendly. I need one of those kinds of jobs too!

Do you work in an office? Talk to your boss. He may be concerned that Smokey may have fleas or smell.

I have brought Drake to the office several times when I come in a work on Saturday or late at night to finish up some stuff. I never asked. My boss found out and he didn't say anything about.

I did talk to my boss and she basically said the HR manager (who it is up to) would say no.
I am considering just doing it anyway since none of HR or my boss or really anyone in this particular office will be here.

It's just frustrating. Especially when those with their sick kids here can't do their share of the work.

But I digress... Just wanted to vent.
    Thanks.

It's a crummy rule, especially for those of us who have well behaved dogs, like the folks here at PT. I am glad that you are having little Smokey boy neutered, but so sad that you can't take him in with you (at least legally )

That is frustrating! Hope the surgery went well and that Smokey is recovering well!

Thats stupid, dogs are like kids to us and we should be able to bring them into work. I hope his surgery goes well and everything works out! To bad he has to be crated wile watching Pork Chop (what a cute name) run around.

I hear ya. Some people find it hard to believe that pets are children.. I consider Tango my furry child, the love is there. I care for all his needs and love every minute of it.

    Hey, San Diego!!

Haven't your employers heard of Bring Your Dog to Work Day?? Here in San Diego, no less! It was all over the local news a while back. I agree wholeheartedly, it's ridiculous to assume that our furkids aren't just as important to our well being as our children are!! Maybe the U/T (San Diego newspaper) has an archived article you could show them. Of course it would depend on where you work, but I am sure you wouldn't ask if it wasn't appropriate. And if a sick baby could be brought in, then a healing pupper shouldn't be a problem.

I wish I worked in a place that would allow dogs. Unfortunately, I work in a jail. Not a place for my pups!

Manda - what you do is call in sick for yourself and take care of your babies. Fortunately on my job I build up APA hours (Approved Paid Absence) at a rate of an hour a week and I use that time as I need it for whatever comes up. I don't go out of my way to explain I need the time to tend to my fur kids, people here don't need to know why I'm taking off, I got the time and it's mine to use as I want.
