    Catnip makes them grouchy?

I have two 3-year old cats. I decided to make them some catnip toys rather than buying them. I made tiny little pillows and stuff them with stuffing and a bit of catnip. They love them. The problem is that one of them meows constantly at night now if she's playing with it (I ended up taking them away) and she also got a little violent with me when I tried to cut her nails. She wasn't playing with the toy at the time and usually she lets me cut her nails (even though she whines and clearly doesn't like it) because they get a treat afterwards (the only time they get treats), but this time she growled, scratched and bit me . Is it possible that the catnip got her all wound up? Is this normal?

    Thank you,
    Kristi

My cat is more aggressive with catnip so he doesn't get it.

Absolutely the catnip got your kitty " wound up." It is a " drug " in the sense that the cats become euphoric OR aggressive. At our house, we get a mix of reactions, and even have one cat that just watches, and shakes his head at the way the others behave!! He does not have the " catnip gene." Which is a 50/50 chance in cats!!! Remember, they are just trippin' !

My male cat, Howard, most DEFINITELY has the catnip gene. lol. He loves it fresh, dried, stale, mixed with his food (Once, when we weren't home, he got ahold of the bag I keep in the cuboard and ate the whole thing--and tripped for three days!) Howard loves catnip so much that I'm half convinced that he was a farm cat at the Woodstock site in one of his former lives.

This is your kitty on catnip

Luna...not so much. When I give Howard some, she just sniffs and walks away. The only time she freaked out was when it was fresh catnip...and I don't think she liked it much. She laid down, rolled on her side, and cried. So no more catnip for Luna.

Wow, this is interesting! I didn't know different cat treats could make kitties nuts... *tries to suppress a giggle*

My cat Simba loves catnip. Fortantlly, it doesn't make him aggressive. It just makes him silly and hyper. I love to watch him play. My cat Melody and Lucky are the same way.
