Tommy (Bandit) is rescued!!
It is with great joy in my heart to announce to you that my parents have adopted Tommy (now called Bandit)! He is adorable!! It was not an easy choice, but Bandit will now have a forever home!! WOOHOO!
The Great Rescue Story
My husband, daughter and I left our house at 7a.m. Saturday with our large crate placed in the Suburban. We arrived at Mom and Dad's at 8, picked them up and off we went on our rescue mission
. We then drove 1 hour and 45 minutes to the holding kennel and meeting place of Tommy and Sam.
We first met Tommy who was being fostered at the kennel. He has beautiful markings on his face. It looks like he is wearing a mask! He was very tall, but oh so skinny! He was very nosey and friendly! He went up to my Dad immediately! He then proceeded to meet every one of us and then check out the room. Again, he went around for more pets! Such a friendly guy! He liked my Dad, you could tell! Mom and Dad took him outside for a little walk and Mom had him sitting and finishing the "round" already!! WOW! They came back in and Tommy/Bandit went for another round of petting. Marcie took Tommy in the back because Sam arrived.
Sam was also gorgeous! His foster dad told us about how good he was, but that he was strong. He had the markings of Bear, the dog my parents just lost. He wasn't as openly friendly as Tommy, but he was friendly and went around for petting. Mom and Dad took him out for a walk and found that he was strong and pulled a bit. A loose dog with a jogger came up and Sam barked and pulled, but Mom controlled him. Now it was decision time. This was the hardest part. Both dogs were gorgeous and very nice. Who to pick?? Even I couldn't decide who I liked better!! Dad liked Tommy/Bandit and Mom liked Sam because of his resemblance to Bear. After a long deliberation, Tommy was choosen.
The rescue director then was ready to tell us the history of both dogs. Here is the sad part.
Tommy is 15 months old, they know this to be true because at the time he was bought from wherever, Animal Control was called to his house for another dog. It was noted that Tommy (called Yoshi), two months, was present. Then 10 months later, a call came in to Animal Control from the mothers' of the children in this man's neighborhood. The children urged their mothers to call because the children could no longer bear to hear this poor dog being beaten anymore!!! (Pause to wipe away the tears...) OK.... Since Animal Control was so familiar with this home, they removed him. He was then taken into Great Pyrenees rescue. He had been living at the kennel for three months.
Sam is 2-3 years old. His story is of neglect, not abuse (but in my book, that's abuse, too). He has had six residences as of yesterday: birth home, bought home, animal shelter, Great Pyr rescue, foster, adopted, back to foster (through no fault of his own on the return.) No wonder he wasn't so outwardly friendly. Every time he had a home, he lost it. So terribly sad.
The good news, though. There were two more previous Great Pyr owners interested in meeting him!! WooHoo.
Tommy became Bandit and was off to his forever home! Amen! Pictures will come at a later date!!
Save a life, ADOPT!!
