    Maggie--our wonderful girl*

For those of you that don't know Maggie or remember her you can read this if you want to.

    http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?t=127248

Maggie hasn't been feeling her best lately. She was 14 years old and couldn't get around like she use to. Her hip hurt a lot and she had heart worms, but none of that kept Maggie from being happy. Every morning she would get up and dance around wanting to go outside. She even looked like she was smiling each morning. She acted like she appreciated each day and was grateful that she was alive. She had the best attitude and outlook on everything.

We've had tons of animals, and Maggie always loved them all. She would welcome anything into our home and treat it like it had lived here for ever. Maggie has slept with puppies, kittens, baby ducks, rabbits and even birds. She never harmed any of them and never growled or anything. She showed every living soul kindness her whole life.

I remember when we got Maggie. I was only about 5 years old and I had stayed with my grandparents while my mom went b-day shopping for me. When she got back she told me there was one gift she had to give me right away--I wasn't expecting what was about to happen, but all of a sudden my Mom pulled a little white bundle of fluff out from under her shirt! I was so happy! The little pup was white as snow and was such a tiny little thing! I had wanted a puppy for my bday, but didn't think I was actually getting one.

We had to keep Maggie in a baby pen for the first several weeks cause she was so small and we were afraid she would get stepped on. I would get inside the baby pen with her and sleep with her and play. It was fun.. She would chew on my 'THEN' baby brother's pacifiers. It was so cute.

I remember Maggie's first snow! She was still a pup and she blended right in with it. It was so cute.

I remember when she was still young, 2 or 3 and she would chase our cat Max all over the house and all around the front yard. They would never hurt each other--it was all just fun and games. She was such a fast little dog....

Maggie got to where she would get inside the bathroom cabinet when it thundered because she got scared of the lou noise, so my mom took everything out from unver our cabinet and gave it to Maggie to sleep in. She loved it! Then after sleeping in the cabinet every night for years and years she decided she liked the bath room closrt best, so we then cleaned out the closet and gave her all her favorite blankets and bones to have. She loved to come out and visit with us, but as she got older she would stay inside the bathroom most of the time. We'd leabe the door open so she could wander around and come out when she was ready...she would some time get out and go get under a bed. Then we would have to look all over the house for her, until one of us heard her tail wagging against something under the bed and then we would go get her.

Maggie loved us all, but she had a special bond with my mom. When Maggie was around a year old she got parvo and almost died, but my mom stayed up with her for 7 days and nights keeping liquids down her and watching her. God sent us a mircale and Maggie got better. I know she remembers my mom helping her, because she would just stare at my mom like she just adored her.

I have so many wonderful memories of Maggie--too many to tell... She was such a friendly dog though. She loved any and everyone whether it was a stranger or what. She was such a good spirited little girl. She had such a kind wonderful heart.

The last several years we could definitely tell Maggie was going down hill--the way she walked and the way she breathed. We could just tell she wasn;t the same. But, she still acted happy to see us every morning and still wagged her tail and played around with the toehr dogs sometimes, so that gave us hope that she would be ok. She was ok, for many years after she got to feeling so bad... Several times we would think we were going to lose her and she would surprise us all. She always got ok...

She got to where she was having seizures for a while--luckily she hadn't had any in about a month or two...

Last night when we let her outside she couldn't make it back up that stairs--and she hadn't eat anything all day yesterday.
My mom told me she thought something was wrong--we had to go pick her up last night and crawl under the deck and get her to bring her inside...she just wouldn't come-I guess she was in such pain it was too hard for her.

We brought her in and I gave her half of a sandwich I hadn't eaten. She did eat that which surprised me, but that's all she did eat all day.
We were about to go to bed last night and we all told her good-night--not knowing it would be the last time we would see her.

This morning my mom woke up and knocked on my bed room door. She was crying when I opened the door and I thought something had happened to one of our precious ducks, I never thought about anything happening to our wonderful Maggie.
My mom said that she was already gone when she got up. She was lying next to her her new dog bed we had just bought her not long ago.
We just sat and pet her and cried over her for the longest.
Then my brothers came and buried her for us. They buried her under a tree next to where our ducks that have died are buried. Maggie enjoyed lying under that tree sometime.

I can't believe that Maggie is gone. She was 14 years old. She's been with us longer than my brother has--he's only 13..

We were upset that we didn't get to be with her when she left to be wth the Lord, but my mom knew her best and she said that she thinks Maggie wanted to be alone. She said Maggie was only hanging on so long just because she knew how much we loved her and she didn't want to leave us. She said it would have probably been harder for Maggie to go if we had been there with her. Even though we miss Maggie and want her here with us, we're glad she's not in any more pain. I'm glad she feels better. I miss her; we all miss her. She was a special girl. No matter how many animals you have you always love each and everyone with your whole heart and when one dies they seem to take a little of your heart with them.

Maggie had 14 wonderful years with you and your family. She knew love and she enjoyed many fun times with all of you. I think your mom may be right, that she wouldn't want to leave if all of you were there. Hugs to all of you. Sweet Maggie, have fun at the Bridge!

Rest easy at the bridge, Beautiful Maggie. No more pain.
Look in on your humans and let them know you're alright. They're hurting so much right now. Snuggle with them while they sleep.

RIP Sweet Maggie. You lived a very good life with your family and they miss you terribly. Please let them know you are happy and pain free at the bridge.
Our goal in life should be - to be as good a person as our dog thinks we are.

Thank you for the siggy, Michelle!

    Rest easy Maggie.

You were blessed to have her in your life for so long, take comfort in knowing she now is no longer in pain.
She'll be watching over you from the bridge now.

    RIP Maggie.

Maggie was a beautiful, wonderful girl. I'm so glad that you and your family were blessed with her presence for 14 years. But, I also know that no amount of time spent with them makes up for losing them. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Rest in peace, Maggie. I would bet you have already met my Lilly. She will be a great friend to you.

Thank you all so much. You don't know how much it means to have you all to talk to about this. It's so hard, but its nice to have others that know what you're going through.

I still can't believe she's gone. We had her such a long time and it's just so sad around here without her. She was always in the bathroom when ever some one would go in there --she'd be sitting in the closet on her little bed just smiling up at you wagging her tail. It's sad to go in there anymore--knowing she's not there--I just miss her.

Sadie (our new greay pyrenees puppy) use to enjoy hanging out w/ Maggie and watching her. She has seemed to be looking around the house for her lately... It's sad....

I am so sorry for your loss, it is hard when you have had one that long to loose them, its hard period. I know when I lost both of mine it devastated me, I had not been without them for 15yrs, then all of a sudden in a matter of two years they were both gone. Just take comfort that she is not suffering anymore and she is her healthy, happy self again.
RIP sweet Maggie enjoy your health again.
