    Clambake at Thursdays-217

Hey everybody! I couldn't wait, it's time for the clambake! Let's see I've got the steamers, lobster, scallops, corn-on-the-cob, plenty of butter and other fixings. Somebody know a good DOTD for a clambake (please, no clamjooz).

Bloody Marys are good!! It's not really Klam Juz but if a bloody is made with Clamato Juice it's really quite good and not "fishy" at all!!! And freshly made lemonade for those that prefer it. I like to make it with sugar water (similar to that to make Sweet Southern Tea). Hmmmm, how many PetTalkers does it take to make lemonade Plus plenty of beer for the crab pot of course ~

DOTD should be BEER! A clam bake - I used to go to those with my grandparents and aunts & uncles in upper state New York. Wow! Were they ever fun. They were a benefit for the local volunteer firemen.

What a hoot they were! One of the years I attended my favorite Uncle had crash landed his small plane. He had made a landing strip in the fields behind their farm. I watched him do this and was beside myself..........until we watched him walk away from the plane. My Aunt put her foot down then, and claimed she was going to plow up the landing strip all by herself. Use the local airport she shouted at him! We were all relieved he was alright.

He drank beer all day at the Clam Bake and I have never, ever seen my Uncle get so drunk. He really didn't drink! But, he knew he was lucky to be alive.

So - barkeep - whatcha got to offer in a really good beer to go with these clams and corn - and oh.............gosh, I am drooling here.

A clam press I suppose? And please...don't offer me the job of cleaning the clam press...that would be worse than the cleaning job after the food fight!

Well, I guess we should get things started. Do we have enough big pots, I need one for the lobster, one for the clams and one for the corn. Mario, you wanna help me husk the corn? Make sure you pull off all the corn silk. Oh, look how cute Mario looks like he has a blonde wig with all that corn silk on his head.

Oh you know what else we need, Jimmy Buffett and Margaritas

    Nibblin' on sponge cake,
    watchin' the sun bake;
All of those tourists covered with oil.
Strummin' my six string on my front porch swing.
    Smell those shrimp--
    They're beginnin' to boil.

    Wasted away again in Margaritaville,
Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt.
Some people claim that there's a woman to blame,
    But I know it's nobody's fault.

    Don't know the reason,
    Stayed here all season
With nothing to show but this brand new tatoo.
    But it's a real beauty,
A Mexican cutie, how it got here
    I haven't a clue.

    Wasted away again in Margaritaville,
Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt.
Some people claim that there's a woman to blame,
Now I think,-- hell it could be my fault.

I blew out my flip flop,
    Stepped on a pop top;
Cut my heel, had to cruise on back home.
But there's booze in the blender,
    And soon it will render
That frozen concoction that helps me hang on.

    Wasted away again in Margaritaville
Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt.
Some people claim that there's a woman to blame,
But I know, it's my own damn fault.
Yes, and some people claim that there's a woman to blame, And I know it's my own damn fault.

I've never been to a clam bake. I have been up to Door County, Wisconsin for a fish boil, though and the traditional dessert is cherry pie. I hope that will work for a clam bake; I'm starting the crusts now. Be back soon.

Cherry pie sounds great. Here's some New England style clam chowder and some clam fritters to get everyone started. Can someone make a pitcher of Margaritas and/or slushies?

That's why we built the huge fire pit out back a few years ago. For just such occasions!! It even has one of those strong metal rods to hold pots up over the fire I'll gather some some wood - team work, don't you just love it. (by the way Sara, I can't wait to get home tonight to read every page of KlamJuz again - thanks)
