Stray cat room/pics and suggestions REALLY needed!

Ok. So now that it is hurricane season, a few weeks ago I decided something needed to be done. I start school at the end of July, I am close to being kicked out of my rental (remember, 5 cat maximum)... I need to go ahead and make a move.

I called the local No kill shelter, and they arent taking in any cats. BUT my other problem is that they do NO screening whatsoever. If someone comes in with $125.00 dollars, they can take any pet home that they choose. That is a VERY scary thought to me.

I live in a military town, (Fayetteville, NC). So their are plenty of pets in the shelters now with deployment on the rise.

Also, it is kitten season. So adopting out a 1-2 year old cat is basically not going to happen at this point.

Little spats are starting to flair because they are just so crammed into a small room...

I need to get my spare room cleaned out (that is where the fosters are staying) so that I can let someone move in and share the rent with me. I simply cannot afford it on my own. Rickie (my ex by seperation) offered to pay $200.00 more a month to come back, but the cats MUST go so he can have that room.

I posted this add on Craigslist, got 2 responses, both of which nothing came of them...

    Start:
Ok. Firstly I would like to say that these cats had a ROUGH start to life. They were abandoned by their "previous owner" in January.. Left to fend for themselves. They have been shot with bb/pellet guns, had poison put out for them to drink. And I saved them. I will only adopt them to the BEST homes. For that reason I ask a few things of potential adopters.
    1- ABSOLUTELY INDOOR ONLY!!!!!!!
    2- MUST NOT HAVE DOGS
    3- NO young children
4- MUST have a vet reference
5- MUST be willing to submit to a house check
6- NO MILITARY PLEASE! Not because I dont like military, but because the possibility of getting deployed and moving is high. But thank you SO MUCH for fighting for my freedom!

I KNOW I KNOW, Might seem as though I am being too picky. Thing is, I love them. Truly love them. They are guarenteed healthy and happy. Wonderful companions. I must feel 100% comfortable with this to go through with it. It might be easier to buy one from a pet store, or get one from the paper no strings attached, BUT can they guarantee you they will take them back at any time? For any reason? Have they been vet checked and tested? Probably not. The proof is in the paperwork... I have that. I also have pictures of these precious kitties, if you want to take a looksie!

Descriptions as follows: Need to be neutered by new owner _read below for details!
Alvin- 1 year old black/white tuxedo kitty(male). VERY sweet, a little shy.
Andy- 2 year old black/ white Tuxedo kitty(male). Sweet, lovable and friendly!
Amos- 2 year old White with black splotches (cow looking) VERY vocal and outgoing!

    Girls:
Both spayed with combo testing negative. Rabies and deworming as well.
Both are white with black splotches. VERY sweet and Adorable. They are about 8 months old.

Now my Adoption fee is 25.00.
BUT I will FULLY refund that price once the males get neutered and you show me proof they have been fixed. I do not have the funds available to pay for that.

The girls are already fixed. So that adoption fee will go towards the fixing of the next cat that needs it.

Please if anyone is interested in giving a very sweet kitty a home, let me know. I will work my hardest to make it an easy transition.

    Finish!

NOW.. What do I do? Where do I turn? I have to do something soon, but what? I cant get them adopted to good homes, I cant stick them in a shelter where they will get given to just anyone, and I cant keep them for too much longer.. I know many people on here do this all the time, I have always fostered through shelters. How do I go about this? PLEASE any advice is needed.
Anyways, just needed to vent, and update the situation.
Now the pictures are just to show their setup, and how tiny this room is for 5 cats...

You might remove the "No Military" piece ? Not all military families just dump their pets in shelters - I am part of a military family and we have NEVER abandoned an animal ever. Look at the "Sirrah" families too ... they managed Boomer's care very well!

Good luck in finding homes for the kitties though; You have a very kind heart to take them in.

I would remove the "No young children" for several reasons. It narrows the amount of available homes quite a bit, not all children are going to carry a 10 lbs. cat around by their neck and also because usually an adoption is for the kids.

If you're truly concerned about it, use the home visit to observe the kids as well. You can decide then if the children will be too much for the kitties.

I have no suggestions or ideas, I just want to wish you luck! To bad you couldn't find a room mate that adores cats and would be willing to share the room with them.

Well - Rickie is her husband, and that adds another dimension here.

Katie - you might want to reconsider kids - as in they might already have cats and are good with them!

    Good Luck!

Well, I did think about taking off the young children, by young children, I meant under 4 years old. But I know when I was little, I LOVED cats, but I also drove them crazy.
And the military, I also thought about just requesting proof that in the event of a deployment, they would bring the pets with them. The vets should have proof, along with airline reciepts.
Thank you all for the suggestions. I think I might try posting once more, jsut in case.
