lab eatting all kinds of paper

My yellow lab has been shredding and eatting all kinds of papers. Has anyone ever had this before and if so, any ideas why and what to do?

My current 1/4 Lab, 1/2 GP, 1/4??? had a fettish for phone books. I could have several piles of papers laying around on the floor and a phone book next to them. The phone book would get shredded everytime. Although she also liked to munge around on paper back books. My solution was to use the Yellow Pages CD the phone company sends out, and give up on Phone books. I know of a party whose yellow lab took keen delight in eating toilet paper. He theorized the dog was sort of wiping itself inside out.

Most likely it's a combination of two things: Possible boredom and the need to chew. Labs like to chew on things. A rawhide chip will work wonders. Also Labs are pigs- they like to eat, and that includes anything. Again a timely rawhide chewy might help. Depending on the weight, age, around 4 yrs old a Lab's metabolism slows down with some weight gain. That's the time to switch from a performance to a lower protein/fat formula. It also will allow you to give more volume to keep the tummy full.

If you want that to stop, buy some chew toys and hide the paper When dogs chew on stuff, it mostly means that they are bored. Play more with your dog, take him out on more walks, etc. Your dog will stop chewing on paper. Good luck!
Thank you so much for my siggy, kittycats_delight!

My dog, reggie loves to take trash out of my trashcan when im not there and chew it to shreads. Play with your dog more or hide the paper. Oh, dangit. I just noticed my gerbil care book shreaded on my floor.
