People can be SO DENSE! - rant

How could you own 2 cats for ten years and still think "they're just cats!"

She doesn't deserve to have them. I sure hope someone who wants BOTH and loves cats comes along for them. They are gorgeous!

I am moving to a new apartment with a new baby, and need to get rid of my cats. Could anyone take them? I have had them for nearly 10 years now, but just can't be bothered to make them a priority in my life anymore. They can be placed in a home together or separate -- they're just cats, it's not like they'll know the difference!

Wow this person sounds really desperate to get rid of those cats. I hope that someone takes them so they don't end up on the street, she sounds like the type of person that would abandon them if she needed too. Sorry I keep saying she, it could be a he too.

But seriously! That is just so mean and hateful, I can't believe she would have bought a cat in the first place if she thought they were "just cats!"

    People can be so DENSE

What is that? Two very beautiful cats just being tossed out because there are other priorities? We had a cat and dog when Soncat was born and there was never a problem. Both pets were extremely protective of the baby!!! And what does she mean if they're separated they won't know the difference? After 10 years who does she think she's kidding? The two beauties have bonded and if this is any indication of the home atmosphere all they have is each other!!!!! This is not only wrong, it's intentionally cruel.

Just clicked on the link and it says it's being removed. Maybe the women changed her mind? or someone adopted both cats?

GRR! Sorry, everyone, this probably doesn't belong in Cat General. When I saw it, I "saw red" and just popped it in wherever.

What a JERK and a FOOL! How can she say that after having them for 10 years... They must have just been decorations to her and not part of her family.

Yeah, I wondered why the post was flagged and removed. Maybe the message was just a scam?

She doesn't even sound warm about the baby!

It's probably just a scam posting... I emailed her just in case. So, we'll see if I get a response.

Hopefully this wasn't a real ad. If it was I sure hope that both cats have found a wonderful loving home together. I'll never understand how people can just dispose of animals like this.

I saw that today too, and thought that maybe it was just someone being a jerk and writing that to upset people. I hope they don't really feel that way about their cats, if god forbid they do own any

This ad was a real winner today, too

When I read "I can't be bothered", I kinda figured something was up.

    Same here Medusa.

I remember when I was younger, about 4 years or so ago, and I had 3 cats. Baby, Gizmo and Shadow. I loved them so, so much. Then, I lost my job, caught my then boyfriend of 5 years in bed with another girl, and was suddenly single, with no job, and getting evicted from my apartment after struggling for months to keep my head above water.

When I realized that I was going to have to surrender my animals to someone who could better care for them, I literally had panic attacks. Multiple ones, every day. I posted ads, I called friends - I did everything I could think of to avoid bringing my babies to a shelter. I even looked in to how much it would be to board them until I could figure something else out.

Finally when it was looking like hope was lost, my Mom called me out of nowhere, and said a Doctor at her hospital wanted to "maybe take one of them". I figured "Awesome - 1 of them is better than nothing!" He emailed me, I sent him pictures of all 3 and told him to let me know what he thought. I'll never forget getting that email back from him saying that he wanted all 3 of them. This guy and his family already had 3 cats, 2 dogs and a rabbit. And 2 kids! He said that he felt it "was the right thing to do, to keep them together". I cried for about an hour, out of sheer relief.

When I read these posts on craigslist from people saying "Hey come take my cat, I just don't want it anymore" it makes me feel ill. I understand that sometimes circumstances come up, and things cannot be avoided - I've been there. However, to suddenly just decide that you don't WANT your animals anymore, or to not bother to look for an apartment that allowed them....stuff like that kills me.

    *end rant*

Edit - This same Doctor is apparently now going through a divorce, and was recently wondering if I would take Baby back from him, and I said of course. However, they have decided to try to work it out as a family, and keep her, as the kids are very bonded to all 3 of them.

Here are some pictures of Baby, Shadow and Gizmo

Yes, I think everyone here on PT can say unequivocally that their furkids keep them sane (even though some call us insane for having multiple cats ). I've had some rough financial times, to the point, like you, where I nearly had to consider rehoming my cats. This person was just too nonchalant about the whole thing. Why someone would waste her time making up such a story, I do not know. Nothing better to do, I guess. Or maybe she wants to see how people really feel about someone who would do that. Whatever the reason, it seemed suspicious to me and I pray that these two cats have a good home wherever that may be.

My thoughts exactly. There are some weird, weird people on craigslist - and a lot of times people will post stuff like that sarcastically as a jab at people who just don't care about their animals....or as a way to get a rise out of people. Either way, it's silly of them to do.

There have been a few times that I've seen ads on craigslist and panicked. Like one time someone posted that their puppy was "chewing everything" and that they "needed him gone immediately" or they would just "leave him outside". I emailed them immediately saying I would come get the puppy, and find it an appropriate home - but luckily, someone had already done so, and he was safe.
