**Am I Going To Have Babies??**

Baby Pumpkins that is.. Ok this is where I left my rooten pumpkin after Halloween was over.. Well then we got all the rain & more rain.. Then I saw this big plant in a full bloom.. Yesterday there was big Yellow pretty blooms & today there is more buds to bloom.. I am thinking the seeds from the pumpkin started this.. I am hoping at least.. I am hoping for baby to adult pumpkins.. Can anyone ID this as a pumpkin plant??

Woo Hoo Proud Mom of some baby pumpkins.. There is another smaller plant too.. That is where my smaller pumpkin landed.. I knew I just knew it.. I will have to keep up as they start to grow.. Why didnt I think to do this in the years past.. I would not have had to pay $20.00 per pumpkin.. Many Thanks you guys..

Oh my, I am DROOLING here!! You are several weeks ahead of us.

The flowers come in male and female. Here is a web site which will help you identify the difference:

So now you are wondering why you would want to know the difference, aren't you? the reason is: you can EAT the flowers! But you only want to pick the male flowers, so you will get all your pumpkins.

Here are some recipes. The first one is the one I have used many times. The flowers are an appetizers, a delicacy, a real treat, and quite expensive.

The only difference in this recipe, they are suggesting that you can pick the female flowers too. I never do. I just use the male flowers.

We can (but don't) buy the flowers in the Italian grocers in Little Italy in Providence. They run $1.00 to $1.25 EACH. To buy them in a restaurant, already cooked, they are usually $2.50 EACH.

That happened to me when I was around 7 years old. My friend and i were pretending we were gardeners, so my mum gave us pumpkin seed so we just planted them, and out of nowhere 2 weeks to a month they were bloomed and then much later pumpkins appeared. What i think is my mum watered them, since we never get rain and we just pretended to water them with invisible water.

WoW Freedom that is so neat about the male/female flower.. Even more neat that you can eat them.. Now do I have to pull the male flowers off to get baby pumpkins.. Or do I just water & of course get the grass & weeds pulled out?? Many Thanks for the great info..

You are so lucky, i toosed my 4 big pumpkins out, but alas the chickens ate them! I guess this is why I ave a fenced in Garden!

Yup there is where I was Lucky = the dogs didnt know what to do with them.. Then of course Mother Nature Helped right then with all the rain we got..

He he, NO, you don't "have" to pick the male flowers to get the baby pumpkins.

Weeding not necessary. A little dehydrated cow manure from your local garden shop for fertilizer, a few bees to do the pollinating thing, water, and voila!

Yup I believe it's a pumpkin patch! The pumpkin grows where the flower is blooming. I think I would probably thin the plants out to just 2 or 3 so that you will have room for them to get the nutrition they need. Yay! You can carve your very own and know it is fresh
