    Starr's Had A Relapse & It's My Fault:Update 5-20-07

Hi, I'm so mad at myself right now. I accidently forgot to close and seal the lid to Storm's food container so it was just lying on top of the container on Sunday night. I came out on Monday morning and noticed that the lid had been knocked off and was on the floor. The container was still in it's place so I was hoping that none of the cats had tried to eat any of the food.

Starr must have eaten some of it because while he was eating back in my bedroom on Monday morning, he made several piles of very mushy poo on my carpet. I've also noticed some pancakes in the litterboxes and he had another accident on the kitchen rug and dining room rug some time yesterday and another accident back in bedroom tonight. They've all been mushy poo. I e-mailed his vet to ask her what I should do if anything. He now seems to be back to square one and he was doing so well. I can't believe I let this happen and I hope he'll get back to normal quickly. Please send Starr some positive vibes. Thanks for reading this.

    Awww, Starr.

You'll get back to feeling better soon, if you stick with your special food.

This shouldn't be too much of a problem, Tracey. Just make sure he continues to get HIS food for the next few days and I'm sure he'll get back to normal.

About two weeks ago CJ started having totally liquid diarrhea again and I freaked! I couldn't figure out how in the world that happened when nothing in his diet had changed! I continued to feed him as normal, making sure that ALL he got was his regular food. About 3 days later his poos were back to normal so I figured whatever he got into just had to make it through his system. Hopefully the same is true for Starr.

Thanks everyone. Starr seems a bit better today and so far so good. My vet e-mailed me back to say that these things happen and he should be back to normal within a week and to keep giving him the same dose of meds. She also said that I'm doing a great job. Now I double check to make sure that the all of the lids are on tight so that this won't ever happen again.

That's for sure. We've all done it, with different cats and ailments, but still.

I now keep the cat foods (all of them) in a closet with a knob (not a slider door, they figured THAT out), in a container with an air tight seal, with the twist tie on the bag or the zip lock closed on the bag. THREE levels of cat security. And I STILL catch cats sitting staring at that closet door pondering break ins!

It takes a while for me to get the food OUT at meal times, but so be it.

    Best wishes, Starr!

    Tracey,

It's good to hear that things are on the mend. Don't blame yourself now - we all know you're the best mommy and want all that's good for your baby-kids. Starr will feel better and so will you

Hugs to all and please enjoy a very special Meowmie's Day - you certainly deserve it

Thanks again everyone. I thought he was doing better yesterday but this morning he had more piles of diarrhea. I just have to wait and watch and hope that he'll start improving. I hope that by Monday he'll back to normal.

Accidents happen and we learn from our mistakes. I hope Starr is all better soon.

What do you mean by saying, "I can't believe I let this happen." Lets get one thing straight here missy, you did not LET it happen!!!! It was an honest mistake that anyone of us could have done. You're a fabulous cat meowmie and don't you ever forget it.

I'm sure in a few days, once the other food is out of his system, he will be back to making tootsie rolls for you.
Starr, don't be such a piggie and go stealing Storm's food again. Meowmie had enough worries about you, she doesn't need anymore.

Tigris had some attacks of diarrhea in the last weeks and the vet has also put him on Royal Canin Sensitivity Control- which works out well.

She has said that when he gets some other food (and I tell you it is VERY difficult to keep him away from Filou's kidney diet, especially the dry food) it's good to have him not eat for a day (ok half a day- I cannot resist longer).

With this we have it fairly under control now.

Hope Starr is fine again soon Poor boy must have been so proud when he managed to steal Storm's food.

Thanks again everyone. Starr now seems to be back to his old self and I haven't noticed any diarrhea or mushy poos since Sat. He hasn't had any more accidents since Sat. morning so I think it's safe to say that the food is now out of his system.

I have to feed Starr back in my bedroom so he won't get into the others food and I can't let him back out until the others have finished. I also have to make sure that no crumbs are left behind. Starr loves to eat and he sniffs around as soon as he gets out to see if he can find more food. I wish that he could understand that eating his siblings food will make him sick again.
