Urgent! Help Needed with baby bird! 1 pic *crossposted to general*

A few days ago, I posted a video of "my beepers" in their nest outside, beeping away! A couple days afterwards, I no longer heard them beeping at me when I started a conversation. I was sad and glad, thinking they had grown into full sized birdies and flown away. I thought that was an explanation, also, for why I hadn't seen mom bird in a few days either. (I've seen other birds but this baby dwarfs them)

Today, I left the front door open to let in sunshine, fresh air, and let all three pups frolic in the front yard at their leisure. Now, I'd heard that prey drive bark (it's a certain type of bark, can't really explain it) from the two doxies, Biggles and Yoda off and on. I told them to stop, they did and went about their merry way. Didn't give it another thought ('cause weenies are awfully persistent about that sort of thing).

Just a few minutes ago, though, they started barking and wouldn't let up. We (my sister Alex and myself) went outside and all three dogs were struggling to get through a bush, barking, and standing in certain ways. I got down and stuck my head under the bush to look and see what "it" was. I thought it was going to be a cat or kitten as there has been an introduction of stray cats into the neighborhood since I'd been gone (there wasn't *any* before, probably because most of the houses around us don't allow pets). Wrong! It was a little grey baby bird! We made the dogs get inside, set up a little nest box, and now he's sitting next to me. The bush is about ten feet away from the next and he was on the ground (the nest is in the roof). Also, we found a dead sibling on the ground (unsure of *why* he died).

What can I feed him, take care of him, etc? Do I call a wildlife center or take him to a vet? etc?

Ya call a wild life centre,

You can give him.

1 Boiled Egg.

1 Regular Tums.

Some Apple Sauce.

Soaked Dog food.

Mix it all together and feed it to the bird with a stick, careful to not get it in it's air way.

If your scared of that .. phone a wild life centre asap, keep the bird in a box with a warm blanky.

If you cannot return him to the nest (dunno how accessible your roof is) yeah, Argranade's advice is best!

I already answered her question in General. We live in the same town and I gave her information on the wildlife center.

The parents aren't around anymore. And if it's a starling the wildlife center won't take him.

That's not a starling.

Baby birds are tough to raise. You best bet is to have a professional handle it.

If you can't find a wildlife rehabber to take it, PM me and I'll give you lots of links to very useful sites.

Angelique, have you called the wildlife center yet? Did they take the bird? Give us an update.

We just got through to WW a few minutes ago. The woman was very rude (and she kept cutting me off and didn't even know any of the details!) and not much help.

I explained the situation like this: I had been observing a nest. Then, a few days ago.. I noticed no activity in OR around the nest. Yesterday, I noticed the dogs harrassing something in the yard and it turned out to be the bird so I brought him in. Plus, he has a dead sibling out there that's been that way for a while.

She basically told me that I condemned the bird and that there's no way that he could have been out there as long as I said blah blah blah I'm a nest robber and whatever... So, if that is the case... where are the rest of the siblings? What happened to the dead sibling? Alex (my sister) and I have been out there A LOT and so have noticed that the mother bird simply has not been around (heck, the computer is, literally, right next to the front door which is often open to allow a breeze to flow through the house, the nest being right next to the door as well). So either he's not ready to be out of the nest, or he is and he's just injured, or any other random idea you can think of.

I've been giving him grapes for moisture and have been attempting to feed him bread crumbs. In a few minutes (after I finish this), I will be making up some food and getting him to eat that. He's rather friendly and will let you touch him but just kinda scared (understandably!). He's been dubbed Herbert (for the sake of calling him something impersonal like "the bird").

Little Herbert.. just know we're trying do the best by you that we can!

Ya she can be that way sometimes. That's why I don't work there anymore. She always seemed to have a major attitude, but everyone else there seemed very nice. The link I gave you gives a baby bird recipe, and that's the same one we used for pretty much all of them, except the crows. It's pretty much the same as Arganade posted, but with exact measurements.

I wish I could help more but I'm just not in a suitable position right now to be taking rescues. I've only took in four over the past few months and that was enough! Plus, I just found out today I will be going in next Friday to have my bag of waters broken. Finally!

He does need to be fed quite often though. They will eat until they are full, and they usually will stop talking at that time. They sure can eat a lot those little buggers.

I'm sure he'll make it and grow big and strong enough to be released. Hendrick's park is where I let all my birds go when the time comes. It's pretty secluded so if they need a little time to fly off they aren't bothered by people as much, and there aren't dogs running around all over the place like there is at Mt. Pisgah or the Butte. Plus it's so pretty there right now! hehehe.
