    RECIPES to make your own Pet Food!

    I thought with all the recalls on food for our fur babies happening, some might want to make their own.. We just need the recipes.... right? There are pages of them here!

    ADULT DOG FOOD (FOR 40-POUND DOG)
    Adapted from Small Animal Clinical Nutrition by Hill's Pet Nutrition Veterinary Consultation Service (courtesy of Rice Village Animal Hospital).
    Ingredients:
    6 ounces ground beef (80 percent lean)
    2 teaspoons fat (chicken or beef fat or vegetable or fish oil)
    1 1/3 cups instant rice, cooked
    1 cup All Bran
    3/4 teaspoon bone meal or dicalcium phosphate, ground
    1/4 teaspoon potassium chloride
    1 (9-gram) human adult vitamin-mineral tablet (see note)
    The Process:
    Fry the beef in fat (do not drain). Combine beef with the remaining ingredients except for the tablet. Mix well. Serve with the tablet (either in pill form or pulverized and thoroughly mixed with the food).
    Note: Feed your dog 1 tablet a day.
    ADULT CAT FOOD (FOR 10-POUND CAT)
    Adapted from Small Animal Clinical Nutrition.
    Ingredients:
    2 ounces ground beef (80 percent lean)

    Pinch taurine

    The Process:
    Bake, fry or microwave the beef and fat (do not drain). Combine beef with remaining ingredients except for the tablet. Mix well. Serve with the tablet (either in pill form or pulverized and thoroughly mixed with the food).
    Note: Feed your cat 1/2 tablet each day.

    SIMPLE SIMON'S BIRTHDAY BONES
    Chronicle kitchen-tested recipe from Three Dog Bakery Cookbook by Dan Dye and Mark Beckloff (Andrews McMeel Publishing, $12.95)
    Ingredients:
    2 cups whole-wheat flour
    1 tablespoon baking powder
    1 cup natural peanut butter
    1 cup skim milk
    The Process:
    Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
    In a bowl, combine the flour and baking powder. In another bowl, mix the peanut butter and milk.
    Add wet mixture to the dry, and mix well.
    Turn out the dough on a lightly floured surface and knead. Roll out 1/4 inch thick, and cut out shapes.
    Place on a greased baking sheet, and bake for 20 minutes or until lightly brown. Cool on a rack, then store in an airtight container.
    Makes 30 large bones.

    This is great info Laura.Thanks.I'm saving it in case I need it for the future.Right now we spend more than 500 dollars a month just on catfood alone for Natural Balance cat food wet and dry.But it's great food at about 27 dollars a case and my cats are healthy because of it.But if we get any more cats and can't afford the good food we are feeding them now...we may switch to making our own.It would be a good project for us and could save hundreds of dollars a year!
    If you find anything else,could you add it to this thread so I can save it?
    Or anyone for that matter.
