    Clumber Spaniels

First off, good news: I get Animal Planet now!!! I am so excited that we found a way to get it out here in the boonies

Okay, now... today, my cousin and I were watching Breed All About It and the featured breed was the clumber spaniel. I think I am in love! My cousin had a gorgeous Bernese Mountain Dog who died from cancer a few years ago, and the clumbers reminded us of a mix between them and Bassets! They have the fur and the face of a Bernese and the legs and body of a Basset Hound! We love them and I wanted to know if anyone has had any experience with these most adorable dogs.

i can only go as far to say i instantly recognized the name of the breed. but i onl knew it from spending so much time w/ my nose in my breed book.

geuss what?! it says in there that it is beleived they are a mix between a basset hound and a spaniel of contential origin. (France) (and i'm not typing out the whole paragraph.)

Please, if your dog is arthritic look into getting it Elk Velvet Antler. Look up my posts on it, PM me, or look it up on a search engine; but please if you love your dog and want it to live many more years consider this option. I've seen so many posts on here about dogs needlessly suffering. I can't make a new post about EVA every time so this plea is going here. EVA also helps with other ailments such as anemia.

I adore cocker spaniels, and clumbers always make me think of a mix between a cocker, a basset, and something big and wooly, like berners or newfs.
Bridget, I can see why you would like them so much, since they have that cute droopy basset quality!

I think that episode of "Breed All About It" must've run some time ago, because I remember seeing a show on Clumbers maybe a year ago. I was giggling through the whole thing! I'd never seen that breed before and they looked so awkward and oafish to me! Still, what sweet personalities they must have....

Clumbers, as a rule, are VERY laid back. They lack the energy of many other spaniels but make up for it with a determination that is awesome. This sounds like a great trait, but be warned, if the Clumber is determined to find or do something that is not what you want it to do or find you need to know what you are doing! A great dog that will look up to a leader but will walk all over anyone else. For the right owner they are fabulous and can be turned onto almost anything that doesn't need it to be fast. For the wrong owner they are aloof, distant and very self interested. They will not run riot - just carry on with their own agenda as if you aren't there.
In an in between household you will end up with a dog that will do what you ask, but it will finish what it is doing first!

I found this link quite some time ago and have bookmarked it. It lists a host of breeds, complete with pictures and lots of data on the particular breed.
