Thanks all. That is one of my favorite pictures of us.

There are still many people out there with the mis information that there are only guide dogs for the blind. So many do not realize the vast ways that these dogs can be trained to assist disabled people. Hence why I thought it would be a good thread.

My friend who works with the L.C.F. sent me a great link to a great site that answers just about anything someone would want to know about service dogs. matter of fact great info on just about every aspect of anything in a dog's life.

    Welcome to www.germanshepherds.com

    You have to google it, but well worth it I found. I think you can also get it by googling;

Our Community: P.S.D-Psychiatric Service Dog Information.

It's a GSD site, but it would apply to any dog. I think there are other breeds on there, haven't finished looking through it.

This is not a Service link? It is a breeders website

    Please post an accurate link

They have categories for every aspect of dog training. You probably didn't push the general index. They have a great site for service dogs and this is a very professional site.
I did mention that they discussed almost every aspect of the dog. The breeding part is just for those that are interested.
But they have a whole spot devoted to guide dogs, PSD dog's etc.
You probably didn't go down to the bottom.

I just have no clue what you are looking at. All you have to do is go to the top and punch in general index. I'll go back on to see what the heck you are looking at.

Maybe try googling the other link, it might bring you more luck...it is entittled
PSD Psychiatric dogs, so that definitely is part of the list.

That is a GSD forum. That is not a Service dog website. Yes they have a section on Service Dogs but it is all about the GSD. The Service Dog Section of the forum is only a very small part of it. I have no idea is posting other forums is allowed on here but if you are looking for Service dog forums I am on many and can direct you or any one to the proper ones that are strickedly about Service dogs and not just about one type of breed. And I am a member of the forum Mike has posted.

I'm getting the same thing? Where would I punch in General Index?

I also googled "Our Community: P.S.D-Psychiatric Service Dog Information" and didn't get any hits? Could you post a direct link please?

Just finished googling the site. I have no idea what you googled. Here are some of the things they do talk about:
    Genetics
    Bloodlines
    Breed Standard
    General Info,
Schcuthund and should those dogs be used as service dogs
Guide dogs, Service dogs, therapy dogs PSD dogs (which is why it is called PsychiatricService Dog Information) etc You can learn everthing you want to know about service dog laws, and anything you don't find they will answer .

I just don't know what you googled, but that site has all the info on all the laws you could want re service dogs. It is a professional site, no fooling around. They are waiting for a decision on the Cave boy's dog right now.
So you can include hearing aid dogs also.

What about dogs that make visits to patients in hospitals and nursing homes? Do those come up under therapy dogs? I've seen first hand what can happen when an elder in a nursing home and a dog get together.

I have an acquaintance at church that is training a puppy for seeing-eye dog course work (I know that is no longer the correct name but for the life of me I can't think of what the exact title of the program is). This pup needs to go different places because he needs to be comfortable going with the person he is assisting, wherever that might be (home, school, supermarket, church, work, etc). She brings him to church almost every week. The only rule is that you ask before you pet (little kids, of course, are excepted and they are so darling with him!). The pup has only barked once in church and that was because he was frightened by a power wheelchair. Even older people smile when they see him. She brings him with his dog-in-training vest on so there's no question what is happening.

Aaahh, I have been defrosted! Thank you, Bonny and Asiel!
