    Unhappy Herrig

Herrig was a dog at the shelter where I volunteer. He came in in January.
He was only 7 months and he was a golden retriever/chow/shepherd mix.
We worked with him on his behavior and he was very naughty and this one lady worked with him on a gentle leader and said it worked wonders for him.
Come to find out, it didn't really do much for him. He wouldn't respond to food or anything when you told him "NO" .. he had an obsession with biting feet and that wasn't a good thing. I just don't think he was right in the head. and the owners who had him before never did anything with him and he was just out of control.

he had a great 4 months with us, though. Even though I wasn't really close with him, I still loved him. He was pts yesterday because he has became very aggressive. We tried our best to help him and he wouldn't respond to anything at all. He just didn't get it.
We gave him a can of canned food before he went to the vet to be pts. The lady who runs the shelter took him and she said he was biting at her face until the end. It's hard to see any of them go, but you cannot adopt out an aggressive animal. I told him I loved him and I tried to give him a hug but he got aggressive. You just can't save them all and it sucks so much. here's a picture of him.

Rest well, sweet Herrig. I am so very sorry we couldn't help you out but we tried our best.

I'm so sorry Krista. This is so sad. We all know how attached you are to your shelter pals I believe everything happens for a reason and it just wasn't meant to be for Herrig.

Rest in Peace Herrig We know you're at the RB now, as happy as can be.

That is so sad. He looks like such a happy guy, too. Sometimes things go beyond what we can do. It's very hard to accept. I honestly don't think I could even work in a shelter. I hope Herrig is having a happy life now. He's free from whatever tormented him.

I did the right thing by setting you free
But the pain is very deep.
If only I could turn back time, forever, you I'd keep.
    I miss you

I hear you whimper in your sleep
I gently pet you and say, no bad dreams
It will be alright, to my dog as dark as night.

Fur as dark as the night.
    Join me on this flight.
Paws of love that follow me.
In my heart you'll forever be.

How I wish I could hold you near.
Turn back time to make it so.
Hug you close and never let go.

I am so sorry about Herrig. This just shows us that if people would just take care of their animals and love them, this sort of thing would not have to happen. Thank you for giving him the (probably) best four months of his short life. He is now at the Rainbow Bridge and free of pain, suffering, and will be given unconditional love furrever.

    Rest easy, Herrig.

Krista, the important thing is that you all tried very hard to work with him, but he didn't respond. You guys never gave up on him, and that's the sign of a true heart. He can run free at the RB now, and have fun with the other happy dogs.

Krista, I'm so sorry about Herrig. I know all of you at the shelter did all you could do for him. Whatever was 'haunting' poor Herrig is gone now. He's running free and happy at the Rainbow Bridge.

thank you all for your kind words.. (((HUGS))) I just wish he could have told us what was torturing him so we could help him out. I can't stop thinking about him and I love all of the shelter dogs and cats like they are my own and I did love Herrig that way, too.
