Legal Documents For Breeding

Hey Ya'll.......... It's one of those friend of a friends, who just happens to have a great looking bitch.

PLEASE nobody say I should do it, think of all the other dogs out there! Thought of it all ready.

My problem is: since it's a friend of a friend, I don't know him very well. So I want to have something on paper saying he understands the breeding method, accepts all responsibility for the bitch & pups. & That I get pick of the litter.

I pretty much know what I'm going to have put in my little package for this guy. Any ideas or suggestions?

Why do I want to breed?
Max is (I think) is a good breed standard.

He's got a good temper, so does the bitch, there both smart.

It's something I've always wanted to do with him. I've been spending the past 3 years finding the right bitch for him to breed to.

Every body tells me I should do it to better the breed, one dog can't better the breed, he just adds to all the good ones out there.

If you do make the decision to breed,
make sure first that both dogs are tested and cleared for your breeds common diseases.

With Akita's it would be hips, elbows and cerf.

A contract between you and the other
party is a must.
Make sure everything is on paper and
signed by both parties.

You might also want to make sure
that the seller sells the pups on
limited registration and
adds in the contract that the pups must be
spayed or neutered.
(that way if the buyer does breed, he
can not register the pups them with AKC.)

Another good clause to add,
IS where if the buyer in the future
is not able to care for the puppy/dog
that the breeder must be notified.
That way you or the other breeder
can take back the dog.
(hopefully that will keep the dog
out of a pound if the owners down the
road can no longer keep the dog.)

Any body can be just a breeder.

Being a responsible breeder is actually
hard work.
I rather just be a pet owner.

I'm for betterment of the breed. Have raised springers all my life. The AKC has different documents on their site. check there. Also make sure both dogs are reg. If not then I don't think it's a good idea.
Now no one get mad, I have had tons of mutts but I'm a firm beleiver in being able to judge a dogs possible demenor by it's breed. I know most non pure breeds are nice but as someone who has rescued "nice pups who became mean " I know the results of those animals. I also know each animal and it's envoirment plays a part in it's life. but pure breeds give a very good start to decide on what fits your family.

This is just one person's experience but it goes to show that life comes with no guarantees. The worst experience I have ever had with a dog was with a pure bred puppy from the best of breeders and a wonderful lineage.

That's what dog shows are for. To prove your dog conforms to the breed standard; so it's not just YOUR opinion - it's the opinion of the judge(s) who has had lots of experience in the breed.

I personally believe all dogs that are bred should have a working title (CGC, obedience, agility, tracking, or Schutzhund, etc.) and their Champion (CH) conformation title. The working title is especially important in breeds that were made to WORK! Why would you breed, if the dog does not like to work, but it was originally bred to work? This is just my opinion.

As to the information on a stud dog contract, the book, "The Rottweiler, Centuries of Service" has a nice chapter on that. It says mostly to include what constitutes a litter (ie, one pup that lives to 6 weeks, 2 pups at birth, etc.), what happens if the bitch doesn't take, and other important things like that. Both dogs are registured.

The only thing stoping me from showing Max is he got brave one day & desided he could make the big bad snake go away, it did but it left it's mark. He has one bald back foot.

The standard for a rottie is said as such, & Max meets those standards. So yes in MY opinion he is a good qualified dog.

One dosen't need a working title in order to breed a good dog.

Not all dogs are showen, not all dogs are bred.

Of course you don't need a working title to breed a dog. Just like you don't need papers to breed a dog. But how do you know that you have a good dog if he has no working title?????

Wow! I found rottie lovers! Ijust got my CGC on Barron.He`s almost 1 year old. I don`t show him, though, so I guess he will get neutered. Is it true that you wait til they are 2 and do it when they x-ray the hips? I wanted to to it now but everybody tells me not to knock him out twice. The way peple think our dogs are so mean and all, I think just the ones that can get titled on both ends and get all the health stuff cleared should have puppies. If everbody did that,people wouldn`t be afraid of rotties so much, they would be better dogs, all the bad dogs would get weeded out. They probably will cost more, but they will be bred right.

Congrats on your CGC!!! If you want Barron to fill out and look like a big male Rott, then you should wait to get him neutered until he's about 3. If you get him neutered real young, he might not fill out as much as you'd like.

If Baron gets his Schutzhund title and he has good hips and is otherwise healthy, you should look into showing him, and maybe breeding him. I totally agree with what you said. If you don't breed the good dogs, then all you have left is the dogs produced by the nutheads that breed the bad dogs.

Thank you Rottie! I`m really proud of him! I hope we can get to CD or even CDX. I know you need that much just to pass the first Schutzhund test. Right now we are practicing for the bh test in the german shows, but I don`t know if I`ll ever show him in the ring. It costs so much and all that traveling! At the club we go to, the President of the club checks over the dogs real well before we can even start to train. Not just the temperment but he goes over their whole body like a judge does. One of the dogs had open hips and he found it way early enough to fix! I don`t think I`ll breed Barron. The breeder I bought him from made it sound like a science! I know more about Barron`s family than my own! All his parents for 4 generations had good hips and they all got working and obedience in ther papers. I still report back to him on Barron`s progress because he keeps track of all his puppies training. I wish all breeders were like that!

Rottie girl, do you mind asking for the breeder's name and their kennel name? i love rotts and hope that some day they will be among the list of dogs that i have had. it sounds like a great breeder! also, what state are they in?

Yes. Hopefully I won't have to get another Rott soon, but I always want to be prepared. Would you please email me ( [email protected] ) the name/email/state etc. of the breeder you got Barron from. She sounds like a good one.
