    Buck has kennel cough

Poor baby Could you spare some thoughts for him? Also, if anyone has been through it, did you find anything helped? We've got him seperated from the girls and have a humidifier with him. Any other ideas?

He caught it at the dog park or the camp grounds last week ...

Poor, Buck! Molly had kennel cough when we adopted her. For every day she had medication, we gave her 2x the amount in yogurt and other probiotics.

She recovered quickly and very nicely.

Good thoughts for Buck on the way.

When Jasper had kennel cough I gave him a vitamin C tablet every morning (I called my vet to confirm it was OK, I'd recommend doing the same if you decide to give Vit C) and a small dish of echinacea tea.

I gave tea in the evening one day, but that was a mistake that ended with a big puddle on the carpet at 3am!

My vet also said that sometimes giving the bordatella vaccine after a dog already has it can speed recovery time.

    Thank you Wolf_Q!

Ohh poor buck! Even if you had the vaccine- there are so many strains of this- they can still catch it..
Maybe a little vitamin C along with the antibiotics the vet gave..

Man, that sucks! Poor Buck. Nala had kennel cough before we adopted her.
I haven't seen anything from Ki or Moo, so hopefully they don't have it.

I wonder if they could have caught it at the dog show, rather than camp or the park?

Lots of the dogs at the shelter I volunteer at come down with kennel cough, it responds to the meds very well. I hope Buck feels better soon.
don't breed or buy while shelter dogs die....

It could have been from there, I didn't think of that. Who knows, we did so much that weekend!

I went to the health food store earlier and bought Vitamin C powder and liquid Echinacea at the reccomendation of some homeopathic websites ... interesting that you suggested it too Cathy! I've also been suggested something else and I'm fixing to go out to find it. I personally am not going to take him to the vet because I do not like antibiotics or vaccines and prefer to take a more natural route. He'll be treated by our homeopathic vet ASAP. I think he'll recover quickly, I'm more worried about him spreading it to the girls though. I just want it to run it's course and be done with.

Dogs at a dog show are required to carry their vaccine records, subject to review at the vet at the shows discreation.. - but kennel cough is not given as often but still- the healthy dogs are at dog shows. It was probably the dog park.

We had it a couple winters ago--every dog in the yard, except two came down with it. Took over a month to work it's way through. We basically just let it run it's course. I did give them cough suppressant...just make sure it's a plain cough medicine, no decongestants or other medications in it. I mostly gave them that at night so that we could all get some rest!

Hope Buck is feeling better soon.

There weren't just "healthy dog show dogs" at the dog show - there were pet dogs as well.
