Maybe a flea collar in the vacuum is bad?!

Just thought I'd let you guys know what I read on Drs Foster & Smith's website because I know some of you might be doing this

"Do NOT place moth balls or flea collars in the vacuum since toxic fumes could result."

Ok, maybe this is a stupid question, but why would you do either?

Anna I think possibly people might do that in the hopes that they would kill any fleas that they have vacuumed up into the bag. Just a guess.... A better idea is just to use Advantage. That way any fleas that are being vacuumed up are already dead ones!

I was told to use a cut up flea collar in the vacuum bag to kill any fleas, not attached to pets. Fleas breed in cycles, so it is possible to kill adult fleas, just to hatch another bunch later, possibly in your vacuum bag. I thought the flea collar thing was just an extra precaution for fleas that may find their way into your home. The pets are obviously protected by something like Frontline. I never though that a single cut up collar would be toxic. If it is so toxic, why is it okay to put on an animal?
