    Quilters here?

During our 2 years in the USA, I fell in love with "quilting". As I was pretty young then (28), I followed a course at a local highschool (Lindburgh High).

    This was our assignment
    Finished

    working on first piece

    I made this for my hubby's Christmas present in 1984; it is called "Baby-blocks". It has a special meaning to both of us;

Omg, I look sooooo young and slim then.... . I think I added more than 30 kg to that now...

More quilting persons on PT? I found this old pics by "accident" a while ago, and I am really proud of what I made then . Later I also made a cover in Log Cabin for our double bed( all blue shades). I don't have a picture of that

    Amazing.

A few summers ago I took a 4 day course and we made blankets. I don't have any photos of it - I'll have to get my Grandma to send some!!

I don't quilt often - but love to do it and watch my Grandma.

I dab at it from time to time. I wish I could find a picture of the one I made for my Captain several years ago for Christmas or the one I made out of scraps for my sister..... Her nickname is "The Oldbat" (has been for 20 or 30 years and she loves it) so I made her a bat quilt. I used fabric left over from a quilt I made her many, many years ago. Scraps from clothes that were made for her grand daughters when they were real young and some of Mama's old fabric that I had that I got after Mama died so it was a bat quilt full of past memories. I have a rag quilt she made for me several years ago too...

You were VERY young in those pictures!

I'm a quilter, Lut. I almost squealed when I saw this thread. Quilting is my most favorite thing in the world to do. My problem is finding the time to do it. You do beautiful work

I see you're hand quilting in one of the pictures. Do you still hand quilt or machine quilt?

    I've been Boo'd...
    Thanks Barry!

I do not quilt, ever. I tried it when I was younger, and I quickly realized I do not have anywhere near the patience needed.

My mother, however, is an amazing quilter. She does everything by hand, sewing the blocks together, all the stitching, etc. Once she even made a king size Double Wedding Ring (very small blocks!) on a tredle sewing machine that belonged to her grandmother.

I have some beautiful old quilts made by my mother and grandmother. My favorite one is a Dresden Plate made by my grandmother for her hope chest when she was fourteen years old, in 1920.

It's a dying art, to be sure, which is very sad. I wish I would have liked it more.

I am too stupid for all manual work but I love quilts!
If I had the money- and of course if I was in the US more often- I would start to collect old quilts.

Your first one is lovely! I will never understand how people can do such delicate work.

I still make small things, like cushion covers. Last year I made this cat-quilt:

Yes, I do EVERYTHING by hand; it is so much more natural, and very rewarding!!
