    allergies?

My hound has, according to the vet, an "allergy reaction" and has had for a several years now, seems to be getting worse. He is broke out in lots of small pustiles that break open then vanish. He itches terribly from them, and we were told to give him benadryl type stuff to reduce itch symptoms. I have tried baths and some peroxcide wash downs that help just a tiny bit.

Does anyone know of anything our there to bath him with or such to treatments to reduce his problem. One vet said it was reaction to "frontline" so we stopped using it for flea/ticks. Now we have to check him every time he comes back inside, did not really change his reaction when it was stopped being used. We were told the tiny breakouts were as a result of "staff infections" Poor dog is just not getting better and vet does not seem to think any more can be done. He got cortozon e shot but that did no good. Dog resembles a 60 pound beagle and is 7 years old... Ideas or expereince with this appreciated, we live in SE TN.

I used to have a shih-tzu with terrible allergies. We would bath him in special shampoo that we picked up from the vet. We tried a few different types, the aloe and oatmeal one and the antibacterial one. We bathed him once a week in it at least. He was a small dog so it was easy whereas a larger dog might be harder to bathe often...
I'm surprised that vet gave him the Frontline, and then took him off it What made him think the Frontline was the culprit? We quickly learned that my shih-tzu Ripley was allergic to fleas and therefore he had to be on Frontline since he would get an allergic reaction as soon as they bit him. Could fleas be the culprit and the vet is going after it backwards???

Also, maybe Sandra knows more about staff infections? I think those are pretty serious and need treatment but I dont' know much about them...
Either way, something needs to be done because your furbaby is suffering. As are you on his behalf. Maybe a different vet?

Good luck and keep us updated.

    allergy

fleas are not an issue, vet(s) seem to say it is some type of allergy to something "that lots of dogs get". But none seem to be able to prescribe anythign to cure it, although most agree it is some sort fo staff infections that causes the small sores..
Bathing does little more then heal the surfaces, then they return. IDEAS?

Our past dog Sam had very bad allergies ( and we had all the expensive testing done and the special diet for 6 months) till she out grew them. The benadryl helped somewhat and the cortisone. The vet also gave (we bought) a special shampoo for allergies that you left on for 10 min. and rinsed off and it worked great. Baking soda (not powder) works good on humans so might it work on dogs? Wish I could help you more.

one of my maltese have serious allergy, small black sores just look like bites , so i brought her to the vet, the vet said that my dog is too allergic... he gave me some antibotics and taught me to bath my dog with a shampoo, named malayseb (bath 3 times a week ) no snacks, eat nothing except eukanuba~ for skin and coat, response FP..after 2weeks treatment, she is getting better now.....when i asked my vet how comes that my dog have this allergy...he said maybe the grooming place (petSHOP) is not clean and contaminated with virus or bacteria,,,, maybe when i brought her out, she was infected by other dogs,,, so the allergy becomes worse... small black sores appeared !!! maybe you can asked your vet if your dog need to change other dog food which is good for skin, wash your dog with medicated shampoo...
hope your dog will get well soon
