"Need Help for an Adopted Dog"

Hi. I and my husband adopted a dog from Humane society couple weeks ago. She is about 2 year old Beagle mix and weight 35 pounds. We found out that she has bone disease on her right back leg. The vet said it's curable by put her on antibiotics for a month or so which will cost us about $300. Actually, the adoption fee ($160) included 2 months insurance but the bone disease does not cover. We've been researching for some help but no luck so far. We found a lot of donation takers but none is the provider (Regarding what we found so far). We already spent well over $300 for the vet visit, X-ray, medical and adption fee. Last week we decided to take her back to Humane Society but we ended up getting her back home (She stayed there for 3 days). We decided to take care of her as best as we can provide for her. We might not have money to take care of her problem leg but we will make sure that she will have a good life as long as she lives.
Does anyone know what or who should I contact with? We live in Ottawa county in West Michigan. Ideas and suggestions are much appreciated. Thank you.
I would love to help these people as they are not too far away. Any ideas? I'm coming up with nothing...

How did you get this? Is it an email you received? Do you know these people, or are they friends of a friend or something?

Kimmy, just as Karen said, who are these people? Is it a chain message that is floating around or what is the deal?

I would love to help by sending a donation if in fact this is not a hoax. In a situation like this, I would prefer to send it directly to the vet that is treating the dog.

I found it on PetFinder's Message Board.

I've replied directly to their post and am waiting for a response.

I know what you mean by being cautious. I'm not ready to just send them a check. Was just curious if anyone had insight to that particular disease.

If I find that it's not a hoax, then I'd be a little more willing to send them a donation.

"A bone disease" sounds too generic for me to trust this. Do they know what specifically she's got?

    I'll find out.

Since they didn't come right out and ask for donations, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they truely just want to help their dog. I know I have a hard time remembering the terminology of some of Kia's ailments.

Although their post could of been a round about way of asking or trying to find a sympathetic sucker. (like me )

Find out who their vet is and tell them that you will send a check to the vet. That is the only way I send any money to anyone!

Find out more, Kimmy. I would be very interested in sending a donation if this lil guy really needs help.

What about having them contact the University of Michigan. Doesn't it have a veterinary college?

    Good Idea Rachel!

Actually it's MSU that has the Veterniary hospital. I can't believe I didn't think of that. *slaps forehead*

Petfinder's board has been down so I wasn't able to get over there and ask the questions. I'm going to try right now.

    Some more info...

The woman replied to me on the board. She gave her name in the first post but I forgot to add it. Here is what she replied to my questions.

I'm not sure what kind of bone disease she has. The vet that we went to is not specialist to this kind of disease either. He said he can send X-ray film to the State and have them analyze it which is again cost money. He said it's perspectively curable, however the X-ray film appeared that the disease is spreading. I can give you the name of the vet and also the phone number via email. Thank you for your help.
With my questions I suggested that she try to get in contact with MSU. I sent her my email address and I'm waiting for the name of the Vet.

I'm also going to see if there are specialists that deal with bone problems in general. It seems like the Vet would recommend them to a specialist... but who knows...
