    Help!!

Loki, my lovely 5 month old, is trying my patience! He keeps on trying to escape from the house!! He is constantly dashing at the door as soon as it opens!! I have had to scoop hhim up from the front porch numerous times now, and am scared that i wont be fast enough one time, and he gets hurt outdoors!! How can i fix this behavior??? I do not want an outdoor kitty!! we live out in the country and there are way too many dangers!! wild animals and such!! anyone have any ideas??? I just want to keep my baby safe! Please help!!

The one thing I can tell you that I have learned with my cats....... Our youngest was trying for a little while and she would always try so my husband would walk through the door and she would dart and I would be outside and make startling noises with a mixing spoon and a cookie sheet something loud and obnoxious that would startle her and it would it only took a few tries and she learned pretty quick that there is something really scarey and noisy outside and she is more than NOT interested in seeing what is going on out there. Is you kitty a male or Female?? If he is a male and unneutered there may be a female outside trying to lure him out. If he was neutured that would stop the urge to search. You could try...... It worked for me.....

Loki is a un-neutered male, he is scheduled for his neutering next month when he is 6months old. I am home by myself all day long, so trying that trick would be pretty hard, Icould do it when hubby gets home, but it is dark and not sure if i dare risk it! Thanks for the help tho!!

maybe make an outdoor playpen for safe outdoor time or teach him to a leash so you can take him out.

I suppose the old water squirt bottle may help with this. Keep one near the door. Anytime kitty is near the door, squirt.

I like the noise maker idea, that "sounds" great, pun intended, ha ha.

I know this sounds crazy but I trained my cat to "stay". I have a rug by the door and I make him sit on it and open the door. I tell him "stay" and at first he got a reward if he stayed for a few seconds and I gradually increased the time. Now he will stay for a long time and I rarely reward him. It makes life so much easier when you are bringing in groceries or whatever, and I don't have to worry about him getting out and possibly hurt.

Try this! Cats are very motivated to get treats and you just have to work this in your favor!
