when do i breed my cat?

hello,

i have two cats, jinx and toots and am wondering when do they start being able to breed. im asking this as neither of my two girls have been spaied and one of them is acting all funny. jinx is a makeral tabby girl, and recently she has been cooing and makin what i can only describe as pigeon noises whilst poking her bum up in the air if i or my partner stroke her. another thing is she appears to be makin a nest. not in the best of places either (on top of the wardrobe, might i add shes borrowed my lovely evening pashmina to make it with haha

) i thought she might be pregnant, BUT! she is only 7 monthes old and has only been outside for a couple of days (she loves in doors!)

any help would be much appreciated

She is probably in heat, or maybe near it, you should take her to the vet, and if she isn't, make an appointment to get her spayed. Even if she was inside 100% of the time, she will be healthier and happier spayed.

When ever my cat, Angel, does stuff like that, she's in heat.

Here's some advice: if you don't want your cat to have kittens, don't let her outside. If you do, she'll more likely to find a mate. You should take your cat to the vet to get spayed.

I think think it is advisable to have the cat have kittens...do we really need to add more kittens to this world that is already over populated with cats and kittens. And besides so many kittens and cats get put to sleep everyday due to the cat overpopulation.

It is possible she could be pregnant at 7 months. Cats usually start having heats about 6 months old so it is quite possible that she has had a heat and she could very well be pregnant.

Do yourself and you cats a favor. Take them and have them spayed. It is extremely dangerous for a young cat to have kittens. There are soooo many complication they can encounter.

Also every single heat increases your cats chances of developing certain cancers. If you really want to keep your cats safe and healthy have them both spayed. Regular vet visits and keep them inside. Outside there are too many dangers. Aside from the obvious of cars, there are diseased they can contract, poisoning, attacks from other animals and even people being nasty and doing dispicable things to them.

Please...please...please take your cats to the vet have them spayed and vaccinated and then keep them inside for their own health and safety.

I find that a very sad response. Beside's being dangerous for such a young cat to have kittens, just letting them outside to find a mate is very dumb. There are plenty of dieses a cat can get from breeding with a male. One big problem is cats can get feline aids. Please please be a responsible pet owner and get your kitties spayed. They will be happier and it will add years to their life.

Yup, that sounds like the oestrous position and it shws that she is ready to mate. As all the others have said, it really is best to get her spayed. Breeding from an animal of any sort can arise in all sorts of complications and costs for a first-time breeder, so please please just get her spayed, the RSPCA has enough homeless cats at the moment so it would be the better thing to do.

I noticed that you are in England too, and I know that people here don't always neuter their toms, so when you do decide to let her out (presuming you do, I'm not sure) she will wander onto a tom's territory. She sounds like she is in heat so she will be mated, and this really is not a good idea. Both animals should always be in the best of health and if she mates with a tom in the street the result is most likely sickly kittens, and no-one wants that.

Don't, unless she is a purebred, you know her potential mate's health history, and you know where the kittens would be placed. Are you sure she's not already pregnant? Please keep us updated.

jinxloveforu, there is s true story of a cat here named Sweetpea. She was rescued from an owner who didn't care for her...but her rescuers found out she was already pregnant and was only 7 months old!

They decided to let her have the kittens. She had 5 beautiful babies. But she was too young to produce milk properly, and by the time it was fixed, four of those beautiful babies had died. It was heartbreaking!

At 7 months old, your baby is still a kitten. It is dangerous for a kitten to have kittens. Get her and your other cat spayed.

If you really want kittens - go rescue some from your local shelter. And make sure they get spayed/neutered when they are the right age.

Please - it is best for your babies to do this.

unless your kitty is a proven representative of her breed( Purebred only ) , as proper breeding should ONLY be done by experienced breeders who breed to better improve the genetic lines of the said purebred cat.

However if your cat is just a regular domestic house cat, it should NEVER be bred as that only contributes to the overpopulation even more.
PLEASE get her spayed immediatley (actually at her age,it should have already been done ) so she can live a happy healthy life without having to raise any young.
Oh , and please try and keep her indoors as it a much safer environment rather than being outside.

Even at that, just because a pet is a 'purebreed' doesn't give everyone the right to breed them.

HERE is a link about backyard breeding. The article refers to dogs, however if you just substitute CFA for AKC it would be appropriate for cats for the most part.

I have a similar story to tell about my cat that got pregnant at right over a year old. She had 4 beautiful kittens, one was solid gray and one was solid orange, another was orange with white and the last was solid black. They were all different and I loved them a lot. Soon after giving birth, I noticed that the solid orange was dead. I was heartbroken and didn't know what happened. The other kitties were very weak and I went immediately and bought them some formula and figured that the mother was just not feeding them and I didn't know why.

I fed them and made a incubater box for them and didn't sleep all night worrying if they were going to survive and how was I going to feed them every two hours when I had to work. I did research online to find out information on hand raising kittens and and to find out why she stopped feeding them, and found out that my cat may not produce milk. I decided to check her and sure enough there was no milk coming out.

I kept feeding the babies and was reading as much info as possible to try and keep them alive and healthy but a few hours later the rest died, the last one died in my arms. I was extremely sad and heartbroken!

I have been meaning to have her spayed but I haven't had the money and time and that is my fault, I keep her in-doors at all times but I have a male cat also and that is how she got pregnant. I have now learned from this experience and I wan't to volunteer some time to help out with the over-population of cats and dogs because way too many are killed every year and it is really sad.

I had both of my cats spayed/neutered at Atlanta Animal Shelter for almost "free" of charge, at a large discount. There are several centers that you can find in your area that (A. charges by your income) or (B. will only charge $40-60 no matter what your income.) I did not know this before finding this info out doing research, but it is worth having your cat spayed/neutered if you really love them and want them to be healthy.

The website that I have is for Atlanta only but it is a complete website full of information and also has several centers where you can have your cat(s) and dog(s") spayed/neutered at a low cost. The website is www.spotsociety.org and My cats seem to be healthier now and much more loving, so it is worth the $65 I spent on both of my cats.
