90 Dogs Had To Be Put Down Due Too

I am so upset about this!! Dont know if you all heard that A Local Shelter 15 miles from me Parker County had to put down 90 dogs.. Due to one dog was brought in & they did not test him for rabbies & nor did they give him any shots.. He was adopted back out & the new owner brought him back due too dog acting sick & funny.. Then the dog was test for rabbies && was positive.. At the time they first had the dog I was visiting the shelter but did not touch any of the dogs thank-goodness.. Well last night the shelter announced that they had put down all of their dogs which totaled 90.. Of course the Shelter is shut down for 10 to 14 days by Law.. This all just made sick to my stomack & at the same time.. Now may I state this shelter is run by the Police & Sheriff's department .. Hello where were the Vets to do testing .. Now I will admitt in the past I have not approved of the way the Cat shelter is handled there & maybe all will be investigated & turn out good.. I hope!!!!

    Oh how Horrible!!!

I hope they've learned a lesson here.... unfortunately the innocent had to paid with their lives in order for a lesson to be taught.

Unless thing have changed, there is NO test for rabbies while the animal is alive. The only test that I'm aware of is testing the brain tissues & the animal has to be dead for that.. So unless you want all the animals to be killed on the spot, there is so little that can be done to test the animals.

I know shelters quarentine the animals, but 1 week isn't always enough for rabbies to show up.

Saddly so little can be done.. & if they would have given the dog a rabbies shot, it was already too late to help the dog.

Its just a very very very sad shit happeneds kind of situation.

    RIP poor pups

How exactly should they have "tested" the dog for rabies when it came in?! Since they can't do that without killing the dog, I'm not seeing the problem here...

Not giving him the rabies vacc was a dumb move on their part...however, if he was already infected it wouldn't have done any good, and there is no way to test a living animal for rabies. Killing every animal that comes through the doors to dig through their brain is obviously not a viable option. Having a better quarantine period for observation of adoptable dogs would be.

    Thank you Wolf_Q!
