    Tuna at the whitecoats

We just got back from the vets and Tuna is going to be spending the night while they get a urine sample. Over the last few days we noticed him peeing in inappropriate places so we decided to have him checked out. He doesn't seem to be having any problems urinating, we kept him in the bathroom last night so we could monitor him and everything seemed ok. However we would much rather be safe than sorry!

They are also going to do a blood test on him just in case there are any underlying problems, he is a bit overweight so a blood test might be good.

We took him to a new vet because neither one of us knew how we were going to get him to our normal vet because of our work schedual, so we found a vet that was recommended by many people in a Tucson livejournal community. They were open until 8 p.m. and took us in with no appointment.

To my surprise two girls from my rugby team work there! I know that Tuna is going to be in good hands tonight, the overnight vet tech is one of the girls from my team and I know she is a huge animal lover and will take extra special care of him for us.

Keep Tuna in your thoughts and prayers that it isn't anything too serious.

Laura, I'm so sorry to hear about Tuna. I sure hope it's nothing serious and that he'll be able to come home tomorrow. Lots of prayers and positive thoughts are being sent his way.

Hasn't her had UTI's or blockage due to crystals before?

We had an issue around a year ago with Tuna we found urine in his blood caused by a UTI. He was on prescription food for around a month (the vet told us that once he had finished the bag he could eat his normal food again). He hasn't had any problems since then, so I'm hoping it isn't anything too bad.

I do worry this could also be behavioral as things still aren't going smoothly between him and Corkscrew. They are still fighting when the encounter each other. So it's hard to tell if he really sick or if he is just angry because of Corkscrew.

I talked to Alexa earlier and she heard back from the vet. His urine test showed small traces of blood, but they said it could have been caused from stress at the vet since it was such a tiny amount. The results from the blood test won't be in for a couple of days, so hopefully everything turns out fine. Alexa is going to pick him up when she gets off of work, so he should be home soon.

Tuna has some Pet Angels with him so he wont be lonely, as it can be so lonely sitting in a cage surrounded by strange sights and sounds.
We are praying that Tuna will be all right, and get a clean bill of health.

So sorry to hear Tuna is having troubles again. I sure hope it's just a UTI and not blockage or crystals or anything too serious.

Hopefully he's home by now and feeling better!

What vet did you take him too? I checked out the Cat Hospital on Broadway and it looked like an ok place, and we had the Cactus Creek Mobile Vet out last Saturday for Peanut and he seemed very knowledgeable and was really nice - spent almost 2 hours here which you'd never get in any office visit - but was also more expensive than a regular office visit too.

We used the VCA animal hospital, it's close to our house which was nice. Over all I really liked the staff, they were very friendly and the vet was also really great. We'd had issues with our normal vet as we really liked him but couldn't stand his staff, so we might just transition over to the VCA. It's also a plus that they have realistic hours. I know that the staff took good care of him last night because he wasn't mister cranky pants when Alexa picked him up! They said they didn't have any problems and he was sweet and friendly all night

Alexa spoke with the vet when she went to pick up Tuna. The new vet called our previous vets office to get Tuna's medical records and was concered when he read that crystals had shown up in his urine test a year ago when we took him in. Because of this he would like to do a second urine test in a couple of weeks just to make sure that the traces of blood are gone. While the blood could have been caused by stress it could also be a sign of crystals forming.

We have him an antibiotics and were are going to keep him on a special diet until we get the results of the second urine test and know that he is all clear.

I'll be sure to update when we get his blood test results.

I'm so glad to hear that Tuna is home now. I hope that he continues to do well and that it's only a minor UTI if anything. Please continue to keep us updated about him.

Laura, I also wanted to add that because you mentioned that Tuna is a bit overweight, you might want to discuss his weight problems with the new vet. I've heard from other vets that the more overweight they are then they're more likely to become blocked and or have UTI's. I'm not sure why this is true but you may want to ask your new vet about this.
