    Pet insurance

Hi, just registered, so hello to everyone

I'm thinking of getting a new puppy in a couple of months time and was wondering if any, or many of you have vet insurance? And are you happy with it? I've been comparing companies online and noticed www.vetinsurance.com doesn't increase the premiums as the pet gets older, which is nice.

Would appreciate any advise/suggestions on this.

    Thanks,

    Rosie

I use VPI.... My price does increase each year, but not by much. I guess they determine older dogs have more frequent visits and ailments. I have a superior plan which covers a whole lot. It paid almost all my bills when RB Cody had cancer. Any little bit helps. They are prompt and courteous. Whatever firm you get, it's a terrific idea. You never ever know....

BTW,,Welcome to PT..great people, warm, loving, compassionate and wise and sweet. We love pictures..so tell us about your pets!

    Hi, Karen.

At the moment, I don't have a pet. We had to put our beloved sheltie down over a year ago. We had him for fifteen years and the (adult) children, and ourselves, broke our hearts. But it would have been cruel to keep him alive in his condition, and the dear old boy never complained (I'm getting a lump in my throat just typing about him).

We didn't have vet insurance on him and we spent several thousand on him over the years, so I promised myself that the next dog I get I'll take out insurance.

I'd like to try a dog that doesn't shed but I don't know what kind that would be.

Glad to hear you're happy with your insurance company. I've heard some horror stories about some of them.

Thanks for replying, and nice to meet you!

I also have VPI and it has more than paid for itself. One accident covers the cost, and the worry of how to pay for it to help your darling in their time of need.
Recently they gave a discount either for certain vets, or if you have had the same vet for over 5 years. The reason is for the tracking of care. ( ie are you good owner that keeps up on shots etc..) However- this option is state to state so I am not sure if it works where you are.
Sighthounds with sensitivity to anethesia etc are always more expensive for surgeries= and at their speed they can travel at, accidents can happen that can be very costly= especially orthopedic.

The vets office I work for now has a LOT of clients that have pet insurance. I currently do not but I have been speaking to a lot of clients, vets, techs, etc.. about it lately. The majority of them (about 90%) say that VPI is the best in the long run.
Soar high & free my sweet fur angels. I love you Nanook & Raustyk... forever & ever.
