I have mixed feelings. In one sense, a name itself is not really evil. But on the other hand, feelings are brought up when a person hears a name and those might not be good feelings.
So I guess for me, I would not USE that kind of name. But if someone else did use that sort of name, I would not put implications on it. (if that makes any sense)
.
I don't think it is bad. Some people may have feelings come about when they hear it but there are other people who aren't bad that have that name also. You do what you like. I would name him that if I liked it and it fit him.

I don't believe its wrong at all.
Every bad person most likely shares their name with someone else somewhere in the world, so its not like you're naming it after him.
i don't really think it's bad. i've even used the name Hitler for a cat that had a little "Hitler moustache"

I would probably say it's wrong. If someone named their hamster, for example, Osama bin Laden, then I don't think it would say much good for the person. There's plenty of names out there that won't offend anyone else.
It depends on many things, in my mind.
I don't have a problem with a cat named Hitler. I would have second thoughts of a pit bull by the same name. A chihuahua named Killer is cute - a rottweiler by the same name is not. You know what I mean?
My frien's mother, who was a Czechoslovakian immigrant, named the kids' hamsters Stalin and Kruschev - can you tell she didn't like them? It was mutual - they never bit Cheryl, but the hammies bit her mom every time.
I have mixed feelings like Jenluckenbach...
a name is just that.. a name... nothing evil about it.
however,, for someone to name something after them and think of 'them' as they are name picking.. is just..... wrong in my opinion...
but to name something because someone likes the sound of the name is fine by me.(hopefuly that made sense) LOL
No one should name there pets Hitler,Satan,ect...IMO
They are alot of names out there that are not bad.

I personally think a name is a name. It has nothing to do with the person.
On the other hand, that's just weird naming your dog after someone like "Hitler" because there is that connection.

But when you take him in a car he sticks his head out the window." -- Steve Bluestone
It is a common myth that a name says something about the owner and even influences the owner. So most names of e.g. biblical origin have a meaning and it is usually positive.
Although I know that is not true in a pure scientific sense I think it has a cultural value.
I wanted Tigris to have a proud name and Filou a mischievous name.
A cat named Hitler or a hamster called Stalin? I would think this would make the original bearers of these names sound harmless. So I wouldn't ever do that.
I would have a hard time doing that as I love all of my pets dearly and simply could not name the object of my love something with a distasteful connotation. Growing up, a friend of mine had a black lab named Devil. I was only a little girl but can remember feeling sorry for the dog for having such a name.![]()
Mixed feelings as well. If you meant it to be named after him then I don't think it's right, but if you simply like the name and nothing more then I don't see the harm, people just might wonder though.

Name your pet anything you like, it isn't like the pet knows who it's namesake is. At the same time, I think if you choose an infamous name you waive the right to not to have to put up with people who may be offended by it or not approve.
"I can name my hamster whatever I want~! What's that? He killed your grandmother?! Um..."![]()
