What Type of food to feed?

I've been feeding my 2 huskies Purina one large breed puppy food. They seem to be doing pretty well on it but I've been reading up on the Siberian Husky breed and most of the sites say the best way to feed is homeade food. I would love to do this but I have a very big family (8 Humans,2 dogs,1 cat, 1 rat and 4 ferrets) and the funds are limited but I would spare more if feeding raw food was better. Would it be o-kay to feed both raw food and kibble?

I feed a good quality kibble in the morning's, raw at night. My dogs are doing wonderful. Feeding raw isn't costing us that much. I got 10 lb's of chicken quaters at Walmart for a little over $4.00. I was really pleased with the price.

Thank you Kay for the beautiful sig!

I feed mine Nutro Natural Choice. Mine are doing wonderful on it.
Raw is definently the way to go. Feeding both kibble and raw should be fine

There are lots of high-quality kibble you can feed that will be a big step up from what you are currently feeding if you feel you can't do raw

Here is a helpful site when looking into dog foods and what ingredients to avoid, etc:

I can feed my poodle human food? Hamburger & chicken???

She is so picky about her dog food . I've tried every kind on the market. She hardly eats it, so I feed her from the table, but I worry about doing it because I was told it's not healthy for her.

If it's ok to feed her human food, I'll do it. That's the only food she'll eat normally.

Human food is dog food, dog food is human food. For the most part, anyway. You won't find me eating ol'roy lol

My point being though is that "human" ingredients are in dog food. You definitely can feed "human" food to your dog so long as it is nutritionally balanced. If you want to feed human food I suggest looking into feeding RAW and check out information concerning that diet and it will help you understand what nutrients your dog needs. Because just feeding hamburger and chicken each day every day won't cut it. You will need to supplement with other stuff

If you feed her a homemade meal, you must put a considerable amount of research into creating her diet. Off the top of my head, I would recommend you to read a wide range of books before you make a concrete decision as to what kind of diet you want your dog to eat:
Dr. Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats by Richard Pitcairn and Susan Hubble Pitcairn
Natural Nutrition for Dogs and Cats: The Ultimate Diet by Kymythy Schultze (my favorite!)
Give Your Dog a Bone by Ian Billinghurst
Raw Meaty Bones by Tom Lonsdale

I own the first three books and I have to say that Schultze's diet has appealed to me the most.

There is a plethora of information on homemade diets, but please read each and every detail with a grain of salt. There will be differences of opinions and feeding regimens so it's up to you to decide which diet is best.

IMO, you can provide your pup with a high quality diet through a higher grade kibble such as:
    Innova/Innova EVO
    California Natural
    Flint River Ranch
    Solid Gold
    Wysong
    Wellness
    Pinnacle
    Fromm
    Azmiras
    Canidae
Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul
    Natural Balance

There are many more so you should check out Jessika's link to give you an idea of what to look for.
