    Daisy Mae needs your prayers!!

    Hi all,

Daisy spent the night last night vomiting and again this morning. Pepto didn't work, so I paged our alternate vet this morning and he wanted me to bring her in. I did (and was late to school...oh well...babies come first) and they did an X-ray and he said that the large intestine is distended. He wants to do a barium something or other to see if he can tell if it is a blockage AND he wants to keep her overnight...I'm not too hip on that idea...at least at home, I can observe her during the night. If that doesn't show anything or she doesn't vomit up what ever is causing the problem they are going to do exploratory surgery. Please keep her in your prayers and good thoughts.

    Molly

Oh Molly, I feel for you and Daisy!!! She's one of the big danes right? Poor girl!! They were going to do a barium series on Duncan if he didnt' stop vomiting also. But he did after a few hours luckily....The vet couldnt' see any blockage on the xrays? They sent Duncan's xrays to an actual people radiologist to be read because the vet was unable to see a blockage and wanted to be absolutely sure....You said it was an alternate vet? Is your vet out of town? Is this a major vet hospital where you could get a second opinion before you and Daisy have to go through all that?
My vet also suggested a Pepcid table to calm the stomach and a tablespoon of food to see if it stays down at all...If not, problem, if it does, not so big of a problem...
I'm sure you've been through all this Molly but I jsut wanted to reiterate some of my experience in case.....

Good Luck to you and Daisy. I hope she will be ok and soon!!

Oh poor Daisy Mae! So many PT pups with stomach ailments lately....the bowel could be distended for many reasons; simple gas is one! Hopefully it is something that simple; an upset tummy. Is the barium series a certainty?? When would you be able to consult/see your own vet? Is this vet part of your veterinary group? I know how hard it is to leave them overnight Please let us know how she's doing. We'll be praying for her. I'm so sorry, Molly! You sure have had your share of ups and downs lately!

Thanks guys...I just got back from the vet ,and yes our regular vet Dr. B is out of town until next Tuesday, and he showed me the X-ray and 2 of the loops of the intestine are much bigger than they should be and there seems to be something in her stomach. I brought her home so we can watch her tonight. She is drinking now, which she wasn't doing earlier, but she won't eat. If she continues to vomit I have to page him and bring her in in the morning to have the barium series, blood work, and then we'll go from there.

Molly, so sorry to hear this after all you've been through lately. We will be praying that everything is going to be ok. I'm glad you were able to bring her home instead of leaving her at the vets overnight. Please keep us posted on how she's doing. Anna

anna, he didn't have a choice!! lol I can be REALLY pushy when I have to be to get my way and when it comes to my animals...I'm pretty pushy!! We have Dr. B. trained...he doesn't ever even suggest it anymore! lol

Since we have gotten her home Mike gave her a piece of hamburger and she ate that, but that's the first thing she's eaten other than grass for over 24 hours. I just hope she passes whatever is in there...my guess is a sock...they are her favorites!!

Thanks again all of you for your good thoughts and prayers for my baby!

    prayers daisy mae

hi! hope daisy is doing ok! a lot of times if the animal has a blockage they can try a laxitive type ,procedure ,tosee if she passes the sock, if not they may go in [there are two ways depending on how far it is passed] and are able to get it out! hopefully hers is one of the easyer ways?they usually do pretty good though,i'd watch her for any swelling in stomach area or if she starts acting like she is having more pain in abdomine area when you feel there, if she does get ahold of that vet amedeatly as you do not want any thing to rupture, this is usually why a lot of them will not eat, much! untill it is passed, there is a orral and anel laxative hope fully this can be a option! for your vet and you lots of luck! we will be waitting to hear how she does poor baby michelle.

I had to take her back to the vet this morning. She drank a little bit of water last night and then about 3am she threw it back up and is very lethargic now. So he is going to do blood work and the barium series today and we'll see. I will keep you informed and please keep her in your thoughts.

    Thanks

    Molly
