    Keep your fingers crossed!

It's been nearly 5 months since Alexa and I moved in together and we still haven't done much to introduce the cats since the incident where Tuna bit Alexa. We'd tried two more times, and each time Corkscrew went after Tuna. Lately Alexa had been bugging me because she was sick of always having to make sure cats were locked up and the hassle of making sure all the cats had an equal amount of time to run around the house.

Tonight she decided enough was enough. I clipped Corkscrew's nails and we decided to leave Tuna fully armed with his claws so he would have a way to protect himself against Corkscrew. They have been out for about 90 minutes and they are actually doing ok! There was one fight, then Corkscrew calmed down. You can tell that Corkscrew is a bit upset, but this is a big step for us. Hopefully we can keep letting them out together every day when we are both at home to supervise.

He doesn't seem at all bothered with Pocky, he went up to sniff her and she swatted him then he just walked away. For some reason it's just Tuna, I suppose it's because he's a male.

Keep your fingers crossed that eventually Corkscrew will get over his issues with Tuna. They don't have to be friends, I just want Corkscrew to stop attacking Tuna.

Thanks for the great signature Kay!

Laura, it sounds like a big step has been taken! Things will get better each time they are together. I think your idea of just letting them together when one or both of you are home to supervise is a good one for now! GOOD LUCK to all!

So far they are still doing so well! I've finally calmed down, before we let them out together I gave Corkscrew some rescue remedy and took some for myself! I had managed to convince myself that they would never get along so we shouldn't bother trying. But now I realize it was just my anxiety and I had to just let them have a fight. Before the second they would start fighting I would freak out and throw a towel on Corkscrew and bring him back to the bedroom.

Sometimes you have to let them fight. Under normal circumstances it won't last very long. Only if it seems to be unending, should you break it up. In all my cat introductions, fosters included, I have never run across a cat that couldn't live together with other cats. Good luck.

That's really great, Laura. I'm sure they'll learn to co-habitate without many or any squabbles soon. We had the same issue with Marius and Scooter. Scooter didn't want anything to do with Marius, and it took close to 6 months just to get them to co-habitate. But, eventually Marius learned that if he got too close to Scooter, that Scooter would throw a hissy fit, so he pretty much just leaves him alone. *snicker*

You didn't have Minette! That girl would litterally make fur fly off the others around here.

Laura, I think you are right about your anxiety affecting them. I noticed that ever since I stopped "saving" Abby from Pouncer that they fight far less (not that he still doesn't go after her on his own ) I used ot eb so uptight about him picking on her that I failed to notice my reaction brought on half the fights.

I also think that sending Tuna in with claws helped a little bit. Normally after their fights Tuna doesn't stand a chance and the house would covered with clumps of black hair. This time I think since Tuna was actually able to defend himself Corkscrew seemed to stay away from him for the rest of the night.

Tonight when Alexa is home we will try letting them out again and hope things go as smoothly.

    You've never met Leila!

Good luck with this. Most the time patience is the key.
