Oreo scratched his wounds open around his eye!

My husband took him to the Vet. this morning because the left upper lid looked raw where the cyst had been removed. The Vet. cleaned it and put ointment on it, and said the scabs had come off but that it was healing fine.

This evening I saw Oreo scratching at his eye with his paw, and the lower lid lesion removal site was also open. The upper one looked worse than it had this morning. So I called the Vet. and got the on-call service.

The Vet.'s in our town take turns being on-call for the entire town, and the on-call Vet. wasn't from our Vet. Clinic. But she had me come over to her office with Oreo and get him fit with an Elizabethan collar. She said the lids will heal OK, but he has to keep from scratching them. She didn't charge me the usual $75.00 fee for having to come in during off hours, so I just had to pay $10.63 for the collar.

Oreo is NOT a happy camper with the collar on! His fur siblings here at home sure are showing a lot of curiosity over it! Except Sandi---she is afraid of it. The kitties are all curious about it. I took pictures of Oreo's lids, and then of him with the collar on, and with his fur-siblings reactions. But I'm too tired tonight to stay up and upload them onto the computer, and then upload them to Image-Station so I can post them on here. I'll work on doing that tomorrow.......

Sorry to hear that Oreo has picked his sores open, but glad to hear he didn't do any permanent damage. Now Oreo, if you hadn't kept pawing at your eye you wouldn't need the collar. Be a good boy and let those wounds heal. That is great that the Vet didn't charge you for the emergency visit. You just may want to think about changing to her permanently.

    WW!

    Talk about a nice DEAL!!
You'd have paid more than that for the collar at a Pet Shop -
and she did the "installation", too!!

I think I'd whip up a BIG plate of cookies and drop them off at her office
    with a Thank You card!

Take the hint and QUIT *scratchin* ...

    the next step is Paw-Cuffs!

Phred is right. The Vet's office gave you a huge break. I hope Oreo's
eye clears up quickly, so he can do without the collar, but in the meantime
I hope he adjusts without to much trouble. My dogs have never had to wear
the collar yet, but I'm sure they wouldn't like it much either.Get well soon
    little buddy.
